    Foot Ice Baths

I did a lot of icing after my accident. But simply got tired of doing it. Ice packs are pain to keep in place, even with the ones that strapped.

Had a bad spring, so started doing it again, but different. Started using ice baths. Filling up my lunch cooler with water and ice. Easy to just stick my foot in the cooler. Next morning or after work, still cold enough for another round.

How much ice and what temps, is up for debate. Not a lot of research on this, that gives temp. First time to much ice. I had the temp close to 32F. Could not last long at all.

Now I sometimes use frozen water bottles so save on ice. Sometimes still dump some ice in.

I am using less ice, but also going longer, which some might just toughing up. Sometimes worry over doing it. Still when really cold just 3-5 minutes.

Only do it for a few minutes, rather than packs for 15-20. Cold water the next day might be 15 or 20.

Ice water just seems a lot easier, and transfers the cold better. Not for everyone, cause it is cold.

Hi Zerk, Hope your doing well , Howís your decisions on the Fusion? Iím now 6 months down the line from my op , Not so much pain in the heel area but still canít walk normally or as far as Iíd like too, Seeing the consultant tomorrow morning and also collecting orthotics for my shoes that I had custom made , Iím hoping this will help with the way I walk , My main problem is lack of dorsiflexion in this foot and canít really see this getting any better, Iím trying to do as much as I can walking and working that involves a lot of time on my feet also, Will See if that makes any difference over the next few weeks,
Are you still swelling up after all this time that youíre still icing? Didnít think you would need it now , Good luck whatever road you take,

I haven't decide about fusion yet. Hard to decide perfect time, for surgery and rdcovery.

    Are you better off?

As for ice, it's amazing for injuries in general. I don't know if swollen, or just arthritis. But I had a rough patch, and I think it helped.

Cortisone shot I think was a big influence in me not deciding on fusion.
