Post I am having a lot of pain on the side of my left foot

It's right where I broke it way back in 1983. There is some bone swelling, is really painful even when I'm not standing or walking on it. I do a lot of running and race waling and have been a long distance runner for many years. I am 64 years old and have suffered problems in the past, but not like this. Both my feet are numb and tingling and when I went for an EMG (I'm pretty sure that's what it's called) they think it is something to do with my back. This has been going on for three years now but there has been no pain.

But this foot problem just started about a week ago. It is warm to the touch. I didn't fall or twist my foot. Walking is very painful. I'm hoping it is something that can be cured or at least can produce a reduction in the pain. I walk nine miles three times a week to visit my mother in a nursing home on streets that have a lot of pretty steep hills. I may have to take the bus for awhile, which I hate doing as they are way too crowded with university and college students.

Thank you for reading all this.

    Hi lonelyheroine,

I know this thread is a month and a half old by now, and I hope you've got some answers by now and hopefully not in pain anymore. Sorry to hear about this new issue though. I was thinking it sounded a little bit like it could be a tendon issue. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I have been battling tendonitis on one of my perioneal tendons since September, and your symptoms sounded a little bit like mine. I had swelling on the side of my foot, and really bad pain that I first thought was a stress fracture so I limped around and ignored it for almost a month before seeing a doctor and getting it diagnosed as a tendon issue. That wasn't a good plan on my part! Anyway, I hope that's not what your issue is, but it's something to explore if you don't have a doctor's diagnosis yet. I hope you're feeling better by now.
