Surgery Information on Tailor Bunions...

Hi there! I had a rt tailor's bunionectomy two weeks ago (along with a big toe bunionectomy). There are a couple different surgeries they can do to fix the tailor's bunion. I had the metatarsal bone cut, shortened and realigned with a pin that comes out next week. I am wearing a cam walker boot (like a splint cast), whenever I walk for four weeks and then a special blue shoe to protect the toes after that. My doc said this is pretty standard for all tailor's surgeries. I was having so much pain from the tailor's bunion, i just had to have relief. So far so good, the pin bothers me a little. But the bump on the side of the foot is completely gone. Don't know the cost-I will know soon how much insurance will cover! Good Luck! If you have any other questions, I will be glad to help.

I also had the same procedures as Chezlux although the pins in my bones stay in. I am now 3 weeks post op and have no pain at all from my tailors site (the other site still aches slightly). I am in shoes walking normally although I have to take it easy until about 8 weeks post op because of the healing bone. My tailors bunion was extremely painful prior to surgery and I have to say I am so pleased with the outcome. I had it done under local anaesthetic with an IV of pethadine which just relaxed me, I was totally aware of the operation (but this is personal choice). Also, make sure you get a podiatrist to do the surgery or an orthopod who specialises in feet to do the op as I have heard some horror stories from people who had an orthopaedic surgeon doing their op who didnt specialise. As for the cost, it varies. Get quotes and go to your health fund and find out how much is covered. You may also need to get orthotics for you shoes to prevent reoccurance.
