How soon back to work after bunion removal?

New here, hi all. Searched but haven't seen this topic.

I know everyone's recovery is different but I'd like to get a general idea.

The bunion on my left foot has finally reached the point where I cannot ignore the pain anymore. It's a daily throb, with sometimes sharp pain. That and now I'm getting a blister almost daily on my little left toe. Humph. Finally thinking about getting the bunion removed, probably next year. I work in retail, so I'm on my feet all day.

Curious about all of y'all who have a had bunions removed, how much work did you miss? How long were you out, and when you went back to work, was it part time?

And while I'm thinking of it, shoe wise, about how long was it before you could wear normal shoes? I wear Dansko clogs All. The. Time. because it's the only shoe I've found that doesn't try to squish my bunion back into my feet.

Thanks for reading this, I know it's long and thanks in advance for any replies and thoughts/ideas!

Typical recovery time is about 6 to 8 weeks. You'll need at least 2 weeks of rest after the surgery and then perhaps you can get by on crutches (since you've just got one foot to do). But remember even if you can get around at 2 weeks, the throbbing and pain in the foot will be bad, especially if you plan to be on your feet (working retail). A lot will depend on the surgeon you choose and his/her post-op directions but in general, this recovery is hard and long. Don't mean to scare you but best to be realistic going into it and be sure you take off enough time.
