    Ankle Problems

Hi all, im new here but i just need some advice about my ankle...

I have had on going pain in my right ankle for the past 6 or 8 weeks. Over 5 years ago I did 2 degree damage to the ankle by rolling heavily in a game of cricket. Since then I have had treatment and while the ankle is better it hasnít been the same. 8 weeks ago I rolled my ankle once again, the next day I was able to walk with only a little discomfort, but the ankle seemed week. Since then I have rolled my ankle a number of times when I step on uneven ground.

The best way to describe the pain when I do roll my ankle is explosive; it drops me to the ground and almost brings me to tears. I am unable to put any weight on the ankle/foot for at least 10 min because of both the pain and it becomes week and I will fall over if I do try and walk.

But yet after a little while longer I can walk with a little amount of pain.

After I have rolled the ankle and im just trying to let it rest and heal. Most of the pain comes from the top, running down the ball of the ankle, it also it hurts from below the ball of the ankle and it almost feels like my akkilies is hurting. Also I can feel sharp pain from the other side of the ankle.

When I do roll my ankle I just hurts its too intense to know where its coming from

Anit swelling creams and medication do help. Strapping the ankle helps me walk but i worry that only makes the ankle weaker. Rolling the ankle makes it worse, while its not sore to touch there is bruising that can surface.

I first hurt my ankle (8 weeks back) rolling over at a game of cricket; I was unable to walk the next day. 2 days later I was up and around fine, but since then I have rolled my ankle 4 or 5 times. Each time I have rolled my ankle it has only been through walking on uneven ground. If I didnít know any better I would say that it takes 2 or 3 days to heal and then im fine, I can run and twist, but I feel like my ankle is week, if I step it wrong it will roll and there is nothing I can do to stop it.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Ankle Problems

It sounds like you may have damage a tendon along the way and now you are struggling with constant ankle instability and that why you roll it all the time.

My recommendation is to see a foot & ankle specialist and have an MRI done to see is there is any damage to the tendons in the ankle. You are correct, taping it will only contribute to its weakness.

Good Luck and let us know what you learn.

    Re: Ankle Problems

Well after going to a Chiropractor (he is a specialist in ankles/feet) I have been told I have slightly torn a Tendon in my right ankle, which is why I keep falling and rolling my ankle. While the swelling and pain go away the actual injury never heals.

I have been told to stop all exercise for 3 months, ware an ankle brace during the day and take glucosamine sulfate daily to help rebuild the joint. Elevate it at night and just try to keep off it as much as general.

Im really quite devastated by this, I didnít thought I had done all that much to my ankle, now im going to be missing out on a lot of things I enjoy. While im still considering my doctors input im unsure to what actions im going to under take.

I want to keep exercising and playing cricket and I feel I would be fine but im am unsure.

    Dose anyone have any ideas?

Listen to your doctor. You risk permanent injury if you don't let the torn tendon heal.
