Can back pain cause ankle swelling?

    Hello everyone!

I have one sided ankle swelling and have for about 2 years or so. No pain, just gets puffy. I do have chronic back pain, mostly lower. I have a chronic pinched nerve in my shoulder/neck area, and have sciatica from time to time. Many tests and doctors have seen it and can not figured out anything. I also have shin pain from time to time and also the ball of my foot has pain if it is pushed on too hard. Does any of this make sense to equal puffiness in just the one ankle? I have been to a Cardiologist-everything-fine, kidneys are fine, no clots in the leg, so I am at a loss as to what to do for it. I don't know if a hot tub would be good for it or not. Ice and elevation does nothing...except hurt.

I appreciate any input as this is driving me nuts!

How did you get diagnosed? No doctor seems to know what to do! What do you do for it? Does it give you pain or just puff up? Thanks for the reply!

when i was injured at work one of the injuries was going over on my ankle. after 3 mos of the swelling not going down and the pain the dr. ordered an MRI. also see a podiatrist regularly for routine diabetic foot care. he thought i might have broken my foot so he did x-rays. that showed a bad case of arthritis on the outer part of my foot that extends from the ankle injury.
