dress shoes and braces?

For the ladies (and the men who love us)-

I wear two jointed AFO's that I need to get into a pair of decent shoes. I am currently wearing X-trainers/sneakers 100% of the time but would like something a more professional for when I teach or give speeches. I used to wear loafers or heels depending on the audience I was speaking to. I can't wear heels of any kind now. Any suggestions?

If it helps: before the surgeries I wore a ladies 8.5 - 9 regular and now am in a Men's size 9 D(regular) or EE (wide) with the braces on.

I dread heading out to the malls since I can't be up on the old feet for along time. Thanks for your ideas!

Jane,
Before you head out to the mall, I would check to see if anyone in the area specializes in handling shoes that would accomodate the brace. I just got a ritchie brace for my right ankle and they actually included possible shoe companies that it might fit in. I know that I have a local shoe store that will work with you things like this. The mall is tough for those of us that have foot issues.
