should I be worried?

I had talar osteophyte removal, debridement, and decompression 6 weeks ago on my right ankle. I got the go ahead to transition to tennis shoes on the 7th and have been wearing them continuously since the 10th both with and without a smaller ASO brace. The last few days I noticed that my right ankle feels warmer than the left. I can feel is without actually touching it and then when I touch it even more. It is not hot all the time. I do have some numbness around the ankle including one area with no sensation to temperature. No fever, no increase in swelling, no pain. It's just hot. Mom thinks it's the nerves trying to come back and being confused. Anyone have this experience? Did it go away? Should I be concerned?

Re: should I be worried?

all sounds pretty normal to me, the hotness is just part of the healing process (like swelling is) and will decrease over time, the numbness is probably nerve damage, which often happens after surgery. It will also get better over time, don't worry about it, if you are still having problems with this a year from now, that would be the point to talk to the doctor about it, but it should all be nicely back to normal by then. It just takes time for everything to get back to normal, but everything you are experiencing is pretty standard, so no need for you to stress!

Hope that puts your mind at ease.
