my ankle hurts :(

I posted on another thread, but you may not read it. Short version: 1999 when I was 21 I broke my tib/fib. I had some soft tissue damage and since supportive tissues were injured, I had to have surgery. I had screws placed in the lateral side of my right ankle-this would support the soft tissue as it healed to keep me aligned and so forth. Things have been fine really. LAst summer I was helping my mom move a tarp, and under it were tons of wolf spiders!!! I SCREAMED and jumped around, landing in a small hole twisting my foot. I thought I had broken it again and by my screams you would have thought my foot was ripped off!! Anyway, just bruised it really badly, no real issues walking on it. Didn't need a doc.
So, fast forward to a week ago. I noticed the inner ankle bone was having pain. this was new. Okay. But then I noticed going down stairs was harder and actually making some new discomfort there too. GTHe other day, the whole front part of my ankle, the Achilles area, inner ankle and muscles surrounding were all sore. YOu couldn't palpate and sore areas except the muscle on the back side of the area that was repaired. If I hold my foot upright in bed, it hurts! At work tonight it was really bothering me. Now, I have had two back surgeries and am doing well, I don't need this!
I don't think it is the weather-and I didn't do anything special to cause a new discomfort (didn't go dancing lately in my four inch heels

)
I am writing really to find out if anyone else has come across this type of thing. I know part could be arthritis, but for it to just happen, seems odd. Like I said, no known injury. Kept me up the other night too-which again, isn't normal.

wow...have you been to see an ortho doc or foot and ankle specialist yet? probably that would be a good idea,,and perhaps x ray. i broke my ankle when i was 20...and 30yo my cartilege degenerated and had to have ankle fused..which i am recovering from at this point still. walking without cast,,i was in bed for two months..wore an aircast for three. it still hurts..but different.

It's possible you have some scar tissue or something from earlier injuries. Definitely, get it checked out. It can probably be made at least somewhat better.

Hiya,

I broke my tib + fib in 2000, I had 3 ops, then was told it was sorted. Then well it hurt a bit but I sort of ignored it and carried on with life (as per my terrible 3rd surgeons instructions). Then one day I fell down the stairs (nothing bad at all but did knock my bad ankle a bit. Anyway, so I was like oh its jsut a bruise, but then was kind of paying attention to my ankle for the first time in ages, and it really hurt. So I went and got an xray, just in case it was more than a bruise, and so that I could stop being silly haha.

Yeah went and got the x-ray and wow was that a shock... I had some massive bone spurs, some holes in my cartilage and a couple of subchondral cysts... so I was told never to run again which was a bit of a shock, and they did a catilage replacement (2 surgeries) and that failed...and wow then I was stuffed. I ended up getting my ankle replaced less than a year after falling down the stairs... it is brilliant, but if I had gone to the doctor earlier then I might have been able to make the most of less dramatic measures...so go get an x-ray etc

I will see a doc on Thurs to determine if I need to get an xray. I don't FEEL anything but just doesn't make sense for it to just start hurting, with know known reason, ya know? So, we'll see!

well, it feels a little better. I did have an xray today, and the GP doc said it looked fine, and she'd let me know if the radiologist found any thing else. She wants me to keep an eye on it though, and if still bothering me next month when I see my GP for my WWE, then I may go see one of our ortho specialists (the one who did my surgery is no longer in the state).
So, we'll see!

good luck...i go for an orthotic on my fused foot on april 15th. still pains me,,but better than before the fusion.

oh...no..i had my ankle fused on august 29th, /07!

I was going back to the surgeon for an orthotic as one leg is shorter than the other...and..my ankle still hurts!!!! p
