need atriple arthrodesis on my left foot

Cookie, I understand nervous -- I couldn't concentrate for a week or two before my surgery and mostly spent the time buying pillows and pre-packaged food and reading this site over and over in order to calm my nerves. It helped to hear the best and the worst possible scenario.

I'm 52 and have had RA since my 20's, and this surgery Feb 2nd was because my joints were bone on bone and I could hardly walk. My surgeon said that when the screws went in the bone was soft, and he didn't get a good catch like he would on a non-RA patient. Nonetheless, I have healed well so far on x-ray and I've been walking w/walker for a week, no complications, and very little pain. No reason to think you won't be fine...does the surgeon have concerns...or is it just normal pre-op worries?

Re: Triple arthrodesis Jan 15 and have questions

Thanks for good words of wisdom. I'm going to hold on to hope that my bad bones will heal - maybe sooner than later. I've got the patience (I think) to settle in and make jewelry, catch up on good movies and read. Had a CT scan yesterday to determine if it's going to be a single (I hope) or triple arthro. Will find out Monday when I see the doc. Keep some good thoughts comin' please. Since I'm facing having the same on the other foot followed by both knees replaced, all I'm seeing right now is surgery and recovery times 4. I guess I always knew deep down it would come to this cuz you can't have arthritis for 52 years and avoid repair. But you know, I still figure it could be worse. Today I saw a young woman without legs. So the coming pain is a small price - right? Just keep telling myself that someday maybe I can walk without so much pain.
