OMG the itching! How do people wear casts for 6 weeks at a time?!?!?! I had surgery last week and have mine on since and I'm going absolutely nuts. Its not so bad during the day, but when I'm laying in bed trying to go to sleep, the itching is sooooo awful it makes me nauteous. I finally stuck something in it to scratch the other night (I know, I know... not recommended, but I couldn't take the itching. And I learned my lesson as it only made it itch more, haha). I tried the cool air from the hair dryer but that made no difference. I tried putting an ice pack on the front and back of knee, and for some reason this helped a little. I heard some mention of Benadryl helping, but wasn't sure about mixing that with pain meds. Basically I'm at the point that I take pain meds before bed just hoping they will knock me out. Thank god I'm getting this off tomorrow, and with any luck moving into a boot.

Re: Casts!!!

I took Claritin and that worked for me. The dr said it was okay to take it with other meds and to take it once every 12 hrs instead of 24. My shin and ankle have peeled about 5 layers and itched even in a boot.
