crack wound on sole of foot -- delayed healing?

    Hi everyone,

a small area on the front sole of my foot (about half an inch from the base of the 3rd and 4th toes) cracked about a month and a half ago. i think it was just from walking too much in flip flops. one day walking around on the carpet at home i just noticed that this part of the bottom of my foot was wounded, and since i hadn't punctured or scraped my foot, I didn't think much of it. I just put a bandaid on it and went about life as usual. however, it's now been over a month and the wound still hasn't healed. It has gotten a little bit better, so it's not an open crack anymore, but it's still red, with a white center (center looks like dead skin and seems to extend back into the flesh). So the skin isn't broken anymore, but the coloring is still off, and it's still considerably sore when i walk.

Is this much time to heal a deep crack in the skin/flesh normal? Is it just taking this long because I've been walking on it, or is this something else? Should I be worried about infection at this point? It's not abnormally swollen or anything and there's no pus, but it just simply has not been getting better.

    I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

My advice would be since it has been over a month and the sore hasn't healed it might be a good idea to go to your doctor and have it checked out to rule out any underlying problem. He may just put you on an antibiotic to help clear it up or for sure he should be able to tell you what is causing it. You are probably aggravating it more just by walking on it, but who can go through the day without walking? Keep us posted as to how you are doing.
