Burning question about Calcaneus Surgery

Hi There,

As much as im trying to deal with this. i must admit that im a newbie here. about two month ago i fell down a flight of stairs, and i tried to but my foot out to catch my fall and i landed in a acquired position. As a result, i shattered my heel bone. i was hospitalized, and waited two weeks until the swelling went down for my surgery to proceed. its 6 weeks now since my surgery in which i had 6 pins, a plat, and a bone grapht. the reason for my concern is that im still very swollen and i have this horrible BURNING sensation in my foot.

Is this normal? what else should i expect? how long do you think in till the swelling starts going down? is the asking in my heel normal? and if so how long will i experience it and is this BURNING feeling around the area that they did the surgery going to continue and why?

I know these are allot of question for some of you, but i'm really just trying to deal with this the best that i can, i used to be very active, and right in the midst of my early 30s i'm being told that i'm going to loose my movement on my foot and that its going to take a life time to completely heal.

i really need some support some optimistic views

please help

Re: Burning question about Calcaneus Surgery

I didn't have surgery. But the swelling went down when I started using it and walking. I also got a compression sock when I started walking. Swelling does help healing some. But you need to keep your foot up, I mean really up. I slept with it on 2 pillows and 2 on my recliner tiled way back. Toes above your nose.

Even once I started walking I put it up when ever I could.

I didn't have surgery so I don't know 100% about time lines. But at 12 weeks I started walking with walker, few weeks later cane, used cane for long trips for a few months. I was doing most things around 4 months, but had to pay the price in pain.

Around 11 months pain got better. I am 15 months out now. Just walking around normal isn't bad at all. But I feel when doing stuff, running around carrying stuff, up down ladders, ect. But I think its getting better.
