Disadvantages to ankle syndesmosis via double tightrope

Hi, does anyone out there know about the disadvanages of tightrope?

I had an opperation in December for ankle syndesmosis, a double tightrope system was used with carbon fiber.

I came out of plaster in March and had 6 weeks of physio, after initial improvement I reached a plateau. The physio sent me back to the consultant who gave me a steroid injection (4 weeks ago). This has not made any difference and my ankle is in fact increasing in pain, I am now limping again.

I go back to see the consultant next week to see what else he can try.

It has been suggested to me that I should ask to get the tightrope removed as long term they can cause problems, does anyone have any experience of this?

I have also been told that joining the tib and fib is a bad idea as it prevents natural movement and causes problems over time.

Any help would be appreciated, I feel like 6 months on I am back to where I started
