Question I need advice please.

Over 2 months ago my foot started to hurt terribly and I started to limp. The pain is on the top of my foot at the base of my second toe. I had an ex ray which didn't show anything. I finally saw my doctor who gave me an anti inflammatory and suggested I had Mortons neuroma(I have the foot type typical for this) I also have all the symptoms as well which I have had for a very long time. I went to a specialist last week who said she is pretty sure it is a stress fracture because of the swelling. She suggested an air cast and if nor proper orthotics for sure. Since I don't have 200+$ to blow on something I am not 100% sure of I went and had a bone scan last week. I definitely have a fracture. I haven't received the report yet but the technician who did the bone scan assured me there is a fracture. Now here is where I need advice. I got an air cast and have been wearing it seriously now for a week. It is my right foot and I need to drive so can I take it off to drive? When I have to go to the washroom at night do I have to put the boot on to go to bathroom and to let my dogs out(have to go down a flight of stairs). Since I waited so long before I started wearing cast will my foot heal properly. I don't seem to be able to get any real direction on what to do. I want this to heal quickly. I am the type of person who never sits down so now I am hobbling around with the cast on all day. Please I need some solid advice. I am 52 yrs old. Sorry for such a long post.

Re: I need advice please.

Did you talk to a doctor to get the air cast after having the bone scan? If so, talk to them or their nurse to get these questions answered as none of us have seen your scans to be able to properly advise you on this. If you haven't seen a doctor, it would be wise to do so.

If properly treated, fractures can heal in 4-10 weeks, so you're not in a situation where this will go on long term. It's better to follow a doctor's orders now and get it healed properly than to have further complications down the road from not treating it properly right now.

I feel for you about it being your right foot! Some others on here may be able to give you some suggestions about that, and I know some people on here have posted about driving left footed.

Re: I need advice please.

Thanks for your reply. When I saw the specialist even before the bone scan she said that she recommended the air cast. Now that I got the scan and know for sure it is a fracture I am wearing the cast all the time except when I sleep and bath. I will know for sure this week the details of the scan. I am not even sure to what extent the fracture is. I know that I can walk with the cast on instead of limping which I am sure was affecting my hips and other parts of my body for over compensating. I know that It is legal to drive with my left foot but I would rather not. When I called the specialist office I was told that I could take it off to drive. I find it odd that they are giving me this advice without even knowing the details of my fracture. That is why I am asking for advice because I don't really trust any advice I have received so far.
