Achilles pain

During the summer I started to get pain on the top of my foot which was almost like a pinching sensation when I was walking. I hadnt injured my foot or done anything to cause the pain it just seemed to appear! This went on for about 3 weeks, it was by no means excruciating but certainly noticeable when walking. This pain has since moved to my Achilles and has been there for about 4 weeks. Once again I haven't done anything to injure my Achilles so don't know why the pain has suddenly appeared! The pain is pretty much constant an startin to irritate me! I'm a pe teacher and thought that maybe it was time to invest in new trainers as this may be a possible cause. This didn't work! I've tried rest, ice, pain killers, strengthening exercises and stretching. None of which have had any affect. I've been to see the doctor who was a locum and felt as If they couldn't be bothered to be there! She told me to kneel on a chair she poked my calf and said my Achilles is still intact ill send you for physio. She didn't examine the area if pain. She wasn't able to offer any explanation of the cause of the pain or what the problem may be! I'm still waiting for physio but need to get this sorted ASAP as I'm an active person and this is starting to frustrate me! Any help, guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Achilles pain

Welcome to the boards, and so sorry to hear you're dealing with this frustrating issue.

The symptoms you are describing could possibly be caused by a number of different conditions, such as pulled muscles/ligaments/tendons, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and many more. It's common for primary care doctors to look at conditions like yours, determine if there may be an obvious cause such as a broken bone, and if not and it's still very bothersome to you they will usually send you to physio as this will usually improve such problems. Usually patients have about a month of physio, and if not better by then you would be sent to a specialist such as a foot and ankle surgeon or rheumatologist based on your other health factors and the report of the physio.

It certainly can be frustrating to experience such an aggravating condition and wait for answers, especially when it interferes with your work. I really hope you get answers and relief soon, and that this situation isn't serious for you.
