Looking for the best surgeon in Orlando

My so (15 in June) is terribly flat footed. He walks on the inside of his feet and his ankles jut towards each other, nearly scrapping the ground (because he basically walks on the sides of his feet). His feet are very flat. VERY. He doesn't form an arch even lying down.

For years he has had orthotics, but this year they've gotten worse and he is in a lot of pain -- foot, ankle, knees, hips and even his shoulders.

I took him to a pediatric orthopedist. She thinks he is going to need calcaneal lengthening surgery. She had CT scans done and his feet look "normal" on the scans (no bone deformity). She sent him to PT for a month (twice a week) to try to loosen very tight muscles and tendons. He has gained some flexibility, but it hasn't helped the pain or the way he walks.

We're in Orlando. The ortho is a pediatric ortho so I'm wondering if she is the best doctor when considering this type of surgery, or if he'd be better with an adult foot & ankle specialist. How can I find out who in Central Florida is considered a pro at these surgeries (meaning they do a lot of them?).

The doctor is talking about doing both feet at the same time and saying DS will be in a wheelchair for months and then in walking casts for months. This is obviously serious and major so I want to make certain he has the best doctor possible (which I'm assuming is an ortho versus a podiatrist). Does anyone have recommendations in Central Florida (what about the Shriner's Hospital in Tampa?). Any and all advice appreciated!

I would find out who The Heat and UCF's athletic department use and go see him. He may not be the right person for this procedure, but he will know who is. You might even be able to call their offices and find out who they refer teenage flat foot cases to. I find they are often happy to do that when they don't handle a particular procedure.
