Pain after Gallbladder surgery - adhesions?

I had my gallbladder removed two weeks ago and have had a great recovery I feel except that when I go for a walk after a very short time i.e. five mins I get a stitch like pain where my gallbladder used to be. It hurts more when I breathe deeply. I didn't have this at all before surgery and apart from this no problems.

Has anybody had anything simular?

Re: Pain after Gallbladder surgery - adhesions?

Hi. I had my gb removed in October. I felt the same way after walking as well. Felt very tired as well. I still have pain at the top incision site. Could be scar tissue. It took me about 4 or 5 weeks until I felt better. And I mean where I could actually do stuff without getting tired or sore. Everyone heals differently and some take longer than others. Just take it easy. My doctor wanted me off for 6 weeks with the type of work I do, and I work as a sales associate for a department store, so no real heavy lifting. Just alot of twisting, turning and bending. I am glad I was off for that amount of time because I sure was not ready to go back even after 4 weeks. Let us know how you make out at the doctor. Make sure you rest ... I can't stress it enough. Take care.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I just got a little fright because my surgeon said I should be back to normal in two weeks and I was worried in case it was adhesions and I'd be left feeling like that. My doctor also reassured me that it would take a while longer as well.
So I'll try to keep it in my head that it's only two weeks since surgery and not to expect normality just yet.
Thanks Carebear

Hi Elaine. I had the same kind of pain/ache for quite some time after my surgery. Although I was glad the GB was gone, and I was back to work in a week (I was working in a rehab unit as a speech therapist at the time), I still felt fatigued and achy until about a month after surgery.

Hang in there and take care of yourself - I resumed all typical activity including exercise 4 weeks after surgery.

Good luck to you,
Katie G
