Question Can gallbladder cause all this?

Well I had a gallbladder attack on monday. Something I do not recommend. The pain lasted several hours, and they did blood work and urine tests. The blood work showed possible gallbladder problems. So they scheduled me for an ultrasound and gave me perocet for pain.
    ___
The bad news is I have Kaiser HMO, the next ultrasound appt is Jan 10th. So I live in fear till then of the next attack, allways keeping my bottle of percset by my side. This is not going to be a good holiday season. Bland diet, little/no fat.
    ___
Previous to this had many digestive problems, burping, gas, stomach pain, Ulcer, acid reflux, haital hernia. My Dr. indicated that the gallbladder could have caused all of these problems. Anyone ever heard of a gallbladder leading to hiatal hernia? The other ones I can possibly understand, but the hernia mystifies me?

Hi there. So sorry for your troubles. Your story sounds a lot like mine. I don't know if the gall bladder can cause a hernia, but I do know, I had gall bladder pains/attacks (it was removed in '97), and also IBS, GERD, and a hiatal hernia. The GERD and hernia were corrected via surgery in 2001. The IBS I still live with daily.

I know those "attacks" are scary; I ended up getting them daily no matter what I ate or drank, and lost 25 lbs. over a short period because I was scared to eat. Thank goodness my GB is out - I never want to go through those pains/nausea again. My GB tests all looked "normal" too which was unfortunate, because with an HMO I had to go through almost a year of suffering until a 2nd opinion was approved and agreed with my first doc saying it was my GB all along. Turns out I didn't have stones, but a severely inflamed gall bladder.

    Good luck to you,
    Katie G

Same with me the HMO refuses to give me a refferal to a GI specialist and for the last 4 monts all blood tests were normal. Finally I had a test on the day of an attack and it showed something. They at least authorized th ultrasound. (although I have to wait 4 weeks for the test) and gave me pain killers.
Would a liquid diet perhaps help? It could be fat free.
Kaiser HMO is total trash, I highly recommend that anyone reading this avoid them like the plague!!!!

I'm wondering if my problem could be gallbladder related. I always hear that pain from gallbladder is usually felt on the upper right side but my pain is in the pit of the stomach. It comes on after eating with gas and tons of burping. I had an upper GI thinking it was an ulcer after a bout of nausea and vomiting with the pain but doc said just gerd. I'm a 44 year old female.

Hi chis. You should have an endoscopy done to rule out duodenal ulcer or H. pylori bacteria. An upper GI can only determine reflux if it occurs during the procedure, but can't determine the extent of the damage as far as GERD. It could be gall bladder, but your doc needs to rule out other digestive disorders first. Has s/he started you on any PPIs or H2 blockers?

Good luck to you & keep us posted,
    Katie G
