My current doctor, 1000 miles away from my surgeon tells me its a torn muscle from the surgery. Only way to correct it is with another surgery. The pain is as bad as the gall bladder attacks on some days. It can be controlled with pain meds, but thats really getting old. Now I also have IBS. Some days it feels like there is water running down the inside of my right chest cavity. Its a weird sensation. I too have gained weight but I think its mostly due to the fact that exercise is totally out of the question due to the pain. I know this is not good news, but I'm letting you know it may not get any better, so be prepared!

I think mine is adhesions. I had two c-sections and then this surgery. The pain starts right above my back butt muscle and then comes up the front liver area - what is that??? I can't lean over sometimes because the pain will start.

They should have wrote a book about the pains after gallbladder surgery. I spent my whole summer last year going to doctor to doctor - i had all these phantom pains bloating and gas and could not figure out what it was and what was causing it. All the doctors would do for me is give Nexium or some type of acid reflux medicine which did nothing for me. They all said I was crazy and that gallbladder surgery does not do that and these were specialist telling me this. I had every test imaginable. The only thing they came up with is mild gastritis but no known cause. Then they saw my liver enzymes had went up slightly. I was so depressed and lots of anxiety because I did not know what to expect with the pain or was it going to send me to the hospital. I was a normal feeling great everyday 41 year old female. Once i had this surgery, my body went to pot. I have phantom pains day to day. I did my own research and found out that the gastritis may be caused by the bile constantly flowing in my stomach from the liver and because you longer have a gallbladder to catch the leftover. So I take welchol and that also helps stop the diarrehea. I still have gas and bloating. It feels like someone tighten a belt around my waist. I get tired in the evenings, the gas travels throughout my body and causes pain. It is a weird type of gas because no over the counter medicine seems to work. Then i get the pain under the right rib area. Now I have a new symptom - I get gas trapped in my chest and if doesn't come out right away I get dizzy. I have already been to the doctors and they checked my heart and blood - everything was normal. I feared heart attack but it is gas. I didn't know gas can make you feel dizzy. Doctor still continues to look at you like your crazy because they are just not knowing of gallbladder removal and the risks. I did have a fatty liver before the surgery. I did lose 65 lbs and need to lose 50 more. I also thought by losing weight and exercising - it would make me feel better but I feel worse. I do go to acupuncture to relieve some of the pain. I had a colonoscopy too and that doctor told me it might be Spinctor of the oddi dysfunction or the syndrome you get after you have the surgery. I eat very small meals and about to go crazy because once I think I know my body and everything starts working great then I have a setback with pain. I have much more to tell you.
Sorry that you are having to deal with this as well. Sounds like we are going through the exact same issues. This past week has been so rough for me. Yesterday I went back to the general surgeon that removed my gallbladder. He is convinced my current issues are caused by acid reflux. I took Prilosec for 2 weeks, Nexium for a month, and now Prevacid for the last couple weeks. Nothing is helping me! Having an upper endoscopy on Wednesday next week. I've been having a lot of trouble with my back aching recently. Also having right side tightness and chest tightness and discomfort. I burp like crazy, it's so ridiculous. Also having hiccups very frequently. There are so many other symptoms that I am having as well. Everything will ease up quite a bit if I sit or lay down. My friends and family just think I'm crazy when I tell them some of the issues I'm having. I've literally drank water and had the upper part of my back and even my shoulders ache. Something strange is going on and I'm so afraid that like you, I won't get any answers. Maybe it is acid reflux but if that's the case why aren't PPIs helping me? I'm seriously miserable at this point! Trying not to freak out right now. I'll go have all the tests done, or go broke, which ever comes first and just go from there. What else can I do?

    Re: Pain after Gallbladder Removal

I have all the after effects you mentioned I am going to surgeon Monday I said to my husband I dont think the dr took my gallbladder out, I have rib and back pain and bad indigestion I thought getting my gallbladder out would solve my problems I am depressed.

A friend at work said when she had her gallbladder out she had pain for a long time then they thought she had a kidney stone but she didn't. It took a long time to go away but it did.

My dr said your body has to readjust to the fact the gallbladder is not there it acts as if it is so maybe because you lost alot of weight and had the gallbladder out your body needs to adjust. I had gallstones what is a sludge ball? were you checked for an ulcer?

I will tell you on Monday what the surgeon says I was told i have a fatty liver but also that everyone has one. I can really relate going to have surgery and it doesn't help.

Your symptoms did sound like gallbladder but they dont know stones from sludge did you have an ultrasound? I was told i think if their is sludge you have a diseased gallbladder different from stones.

Keep us informed of what works I cant stand the indigestion it feels like a heart attack had that checked all ok. Has anyone taken anything like antacids that helped?

All gallbladder people please keep us updated thanks alot hang in there everyone we are hear for each other.

Yeah, I guess so. I thought having my gallbladder out would fix my problems...wrong! Now dealing with more issues than ever. Hoping that we all can get relief from the symptoms were experiencing. Best of luck to you! Keep me posted on what you find out.

I see a liver specialist on May 7th because I also have fatty liver but then he will refer me a Sphinctor of the Oddi Dysfunction specialist. Everyone tells me it might be Sphinctor of the Oddi.

Like today I burped up my lunch and it is dinner time. So I taste my lunch in the evening. I burp all the time. Yes people around me think I am crazy. My gastro doctor tried to give me anxiety medicine because he thought I was crazy but these pains are real. I just don't understand the back pain and I too have to lay down to get relief. I have energy in the morning but afternoon I get to belching and sometimes the burps get trapped in my stomach. I thought this was going to relieve my symptoms too after the surgery but it didn't and it got worse.

Yeah, I'll be burping my lunch like 3-4 hours after eating it. Sorry for the details but it's true. Usually my back will ache a little throughout the day but really in the evening when I get home from work. For some reason eating always makes it ache more. Aside from the outright gallbladder attacks, I felt much better with the gallbladder than I do without it.

oddi dysfunction is when the bile duct will be very narrow and the bile from the liver can get blocked which will cause spasms and can be very painful for some people. You get a upset stomach, pain in the area where your gall bladder used to be. Some people can't take the pain and rush themselves to the er. You can have SOD 1, 2 or 3. During an attack, some people their liver enzymes go up and then they go back down after the attack. Some people have a total blockage which can cause pancreatitis. Google it and you will see more info on it.

We all might have Post Cholectomy Syndrome. Our body misses the gall bladder. There is no cure for that syndrome.

Yes, I did ask my doctor why they are not helping me. He said that sometimes it just takes a while to find the right medication or dosage of meds. He mentioned possibly upping the dosage of PPIs to 2 times per day and also maybe adding an H2 blocker like Tagamet or Zantac. Guess I'll discuss this further with him after I have the endoscopy next week.

    Re: Pain after Gallbladder Removal

Today was a bad day! I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and had to go to the bathroom and then again to the bathroom and once again. I didn't have diarrehea just had to go 3 times. Then the gas came plus indigestion and finally nausea. I notice after I go to the bathroom and empty out my bowels my stomach goes into shock like it shaky. Throughout the day I was belching and then the indigestion came back. Does anyone go through that?

I started to cry this morning not because of pain but I always feel my life is over because I know my day is shot when I have a bad day. I am just so fustrated because why doesn't a gas medicine work for gas. Is this some weird type of gas that nothing works. I am just so sick of this whole deal!:

Back to soup and crackers - popsicles too.

when did you have your gallbladder out? If it was done recently they fill you up with air so they can see the insides then you get gas pockets dr told me gas medicines will not work because its not from the intestines. its pockets caused by the air he said move around alot.

I had mine removed 2 years ago. My son has nausea upset stomach and my daughter had it over a week ago. I thought they problems with pollen. This was my usual attack I suffer every other month. That is the problem you never can tell if you have a virus or not.
