    Numb lip caused by TMJ?

    35/Male

    Here is my story:

I had 5 wisdom teeth removed at the end of March.
The fifth wisdom tooth was impacted and sideways in the bone well behind the final third molar on the bottom left side of my jaw.
It was also encapsulated in a benign cyst.
The surgeon said it was one of the more difficult extractions he's done but everything went well.
I was healing nicely the first few weeks but then started getting a dull ache and some swelling in the area where the sideways tooth was.
The doctor said it was likely an infection.
He gave me antibiotics and cleaned out the area again, basically re-opening it and starting the healing all over.
The pain went away and all was well again.
I was worried about getting another infection and I started eating only on my right side.
I started getting a dull ache that turned into some of the most excruciating pain in my life over the course of a week.
It got so bad I had to go to an Urgent Dental Center because the pain was so excruciating I thought I was going to pass out.
I consider myself to have a high tolerance for pain but this had me in tears.
The Urgent Dental Dentist said he didn't think it was an infection but that it was likely the muscle trying to heal.
The dentist gave me steroids, Norco (Hydrocodone/Tylenol) and muscle relaxers for the evening to help my jaw relax.
I saw my regular dentist and my surgeon, neither had an idea what was wrong.
After a lot of Googling I self-diagnosed myself with TMJ.
I started eating only soft foods and got an appointment with a TMJ dentist.
She said it sounded like TMJ and that soft foods should help with healing.
I'm a teeth clencher/grinder so she also recommended Botox to keep me from stressing the muscles during my sleep.
I waited a week and was improving but my lower lip went numb so I set up an appointment the following week.
I figured the muscle was rubbing against the trigeminal nerve and that was causing the numbness.
I had the Botox a week and a half ago.
It is nice not waking up to a sore jaw and headache from the clenching/grinding.
I am able to eat normal and haven't had any pain issues.
However my lip is still numb.
I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this?
And will it heal on its own or is this something I'll need to see a specialist over?

Thanks in advance for any help, advice or suggestions.
