    Question Upper right abdomen/back pain

I've had pain in my upper right side, under my ribs, that rotates around to my back. I was seen in my local ER yesterday, and had blood work, urine tested, a CAT scan, and ultrasound done. Nothing was found. I was sent home with pain pills and a prescription for Protonix.

I felt better for the most part today, until I tried to eat. I ate a bowl of chicken noodle soup, and the pain has returned since I ate. It hurts to breathe at this point, but I don't want to return to the ER.

Any insight as to what this might be? It's been a pretty miserable 3 days for me.

    Re: Upper right abdomen/back pain

You are describing gallbladder pain I think...its exactly in the upper right quadrant and the pain radiates to the back area.

Please call a GI doctor and ask them about a HIDA scan; which will show if your gallbladder is functioning properly or not...dont wait too long either. A ruptured GB is very serious...

If you do not have a GI doctor, call your family doctor and ask them to get you in to see one. A family doctor usually will not preform or order a HIDA scan.

    Good luck!
