Did I just fail my stress test?

A year ago I was diagnosed with unsustaining V Tach. Put on medication which lowered my already low BP and HR. After much experimentation we finally think we found a good balance. I take 12.5 mg of Metoprolol and 225mg of Propafenone SR in the am and pm.

After being active (tennis and golf)for many years I am now getting exhausted easily. Two years ago I could play tennis in the am and 18 holes of golf in the afternoon. Now I cant make it through nine holes of golf and tennis is out of the question.

Iíve had stress tests before and always passed with no problem. I had a stress test today and within two-three minutes my blood pressure climbed to 207/60 and my chest was very tight and I couldnít go on. I asked if I could rest a minute and try again. She said that wasnít necessary because my heart rate had climbed to over 140 and my blood pressure ďwas climbing awfully quickly.Ē

Is it normal for your blood pressure to climb this high so quickly?

I had a nuclear stress test 18 months ago and it was fine. Since then I have gotten exhausted even more quickly. I only get the high blood pressure/tight chest symptoms when I exercise. This is why they did the exercise stress test.

I feel like I am falling apart. In less than 18 months I went from playing lots of tennis and golf and now I canít do either.

Did I just fail my stress test?

I had a heart Cath two years ago and had no major blockages. Is it possible to get blocked arteries that quickly?

I have to admit Iím a little bit scared. Any words of wisdom/advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Nancy,

When you say you had "no major blockages", I assume that means you did have some plaque in your arteries. I wouldn't say that you have "blocked arteries" now, but it is possible that the buildup of plaque has progressed to the point where you are getting tired or exhausted much sooner than before.

If that's the case, it is possible to reverse it with dietary measures along with moderate exercise and stress control. That's if you should decide to go the self-help route. I had a friend who did it and it worked for him, and his main artery was 80% clogged.
