Is it ethical to money in my will to my doctor

Just wonder if it's ethical to leave money in my will to my doctor
He is my general practitioner who I see every 6 months for a checkup
Do you think he would welcome it , If I told him on my next visit, I plan to leave him money in my will, thinking he might be nicer to me if I did , or do doctor's usually turn this gesture down for ethical reasons ?

You can leave whatever you want to whomever you want. And you don't have to tell them they are in your will. So, if you are trying to curry favor with him by doing this, I assure you he will tell you not to. Do you have a great deal more money than he? And since you could change your will at any time, why would he believe you wouldn't write him out? I'm not sure I understand the purpose. Waiting for you to possibly die before him isn't much incentive! If he's not nice to you then find one who is. You can't buy that. That's wrong on your part....and he could refuse to accept the money once you die. There's no law that makes him take it.

Re: Is it ethical to money in my will to my doctor

    Thank you so much
Yes you really did answer my question very concisely
I don't know if he has more money then me after all he is a doctor and you know what they make, he is younger then me, he is probably in his sixties ,
As far as my age, well I am old enough could be his father.
I have only been going to him for a year , so it's no that he is my friend or anything, my reasoning for the idea was only to curry favor with him
I wasn't sure if it was a good idea so I posted this question to the board
So after your reply post which makes very good sense
I have decided no it's not a good idea after all ,I will not do it .....
Thank You again for your helpfull and knowleable advice

    Hi namolos!

I would guess the answer to your question depends somewhat on how well you trust your doctor.

In my case, I am 74 with Heart Failure. My life is in my doctor's hands. Would I really want this man, who has life and death decisions over me, to know that he is going to possibly receive a pile of money if, perchance, I would pass away?

In other words... How much does he really want that new set of golf clubs?

Re: Is it ethical to money in my will to my doctor

Hi there. If you feel strongly, think about leaving money to something that your doctor would appreciate, but not to him directly...a medical condition for research for instance. Suppose you have a special interest in Cancer or Dementia- it would be perfectly acceptable to leave money to one of those foundations- but telling your doctor will probably make him uncomfortable and I would think he might excuse himself from your care and turn you over to one of his associates if he is uncomfortable. Leaving money to research is always appreciated by those who come after you!
