Is a Follow up appointment necessary?

I went to a neurologist a few weeks ago because of problems I have swallowing, body stiffness etc. I was given an mri of the brain and neck. The consultant told me that the mri of the brain was normal (thank God) and that the neck showed something minimal, of no significance, which is fine.

He says he would be happy to show me the MRI scan and discuss how to treat my vitamin d deficiency.

How would you respond to this? I have started increasing vitamin d by taking it every day. I have some questions still about my symptoms, but I believe they are to with a throat condition I have. Would you go along?

I would but would also see an ENT as that's probably the more direct approach for swallowing issues. You may need to see a gastro as well.

I don't understand what a consultant is....is that the person doing the testing?

I suggest you get copies of all tests you have done....all normal and minor doesnt mean there aren't changes. It could mean in normal range, but still something.

I would always go to a follow-up and ask pertinent questions....as well, that doctor should refer you to other specialists to deal with your throat.

Yes you should go to the follow up. First of all, vitamin D deficiency cannot be treated by supplements UNLESS they are prescription strength. Even then, it can take up to 6 months to see your levels get better.

And, not to scare you, but I have the same symptoms and I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis based on lesions in my brainstem (neck area) - the rest of my MRis were clear.

A neurologist is the person to be talking to, not the person who did the tests.
Go to the follow up please!
