    Chronic nausea, other symptoms. Help. :(

    Hey! Really struggling today, and hoping to find some insight.

    Almost exactly a year ago, I started having nausea attacks. Not the traditional kind of nausea, but more a feeling of not being able to swallow, or “indigestion” coming up in my throat. I had been on a BP medicine at the time that was notorious for GI side effects, so I stopped taking it. Over the course of two months, things got worse, and then improved. I lost my appetite for a week after a couple of months of feeling almost normal, and then felt slightly less than almost normal for 3 more. My doctor attributed it to a “bug”.

    Then August rolled around, and I had a day where I felt horribly nauseous again. It turned into a side stitch that never really went away, and I went to my primary care to have tests done. She felt around, did blood tests to check my organs, test for celiacs, h pylori, and had me do an abdominal ultrasound. I also asked for a lupus test, and some thyroid tests, all which came back fine.

    The pain eventually dissipated, but I have had other weird symptoms. I’m tired all the time, but struggle to sleep. I had an eyelid twitch that lasted about 3 months. The nausea is a common occurrence now, pretty much every day. Constipation. Gas. I randomly noticed that my eyebrows are losing hair, and I have bald spots where they should be. Slower heart rate than I ever remember having. (I notice this thanks to my Apple Watch.) Anxiety and depression have rested their ugly heads because I am literally at the end of my emotional rope. It’s been a year. I am struggling to take care of myself and a 4 year old in the meantime.

    I just had my TSH, T4, and thyroid antibodies tested AGAIN because I was so sure that they were the culprit. But everything was well within norma range. My doctor at this point thinks it’s anxiety and tells me to see a specialist.

    Has anybody experienced anything similar? Please give me hope. I have none. All I know is that I am so horribly depressed, and don’t even remember what it feels like to be “normal”.

    Hi starzen,

    Most medical doctors will not test you for all vitamins and minerals, and it seems there are many that will cause nausea if you have either too much or too little in your system.

    Here are some possible causes of nausea:

    * Too much calcium in your blood

    * Too much vitamin D

    * Vitamin D deficiency

    * B12 deficiency

    * Magnesium deficiency

    * Too much iron

    * Too much Zinc

    * Too much Copper

    * Hormone related conditions

    * Central Nervous System disorders (CNS)

    * Food allergies

    * Overeating or eating too little

    * Gastrointestinal conditions

    * Alcohol toxicity

    * Medication side effects

    * Stress

    Have you seen a GI doctor? One who specializes in all of the symptoms you are mentioning? Skip the primary doctor and go see a specialist. There are a battery of tests which should be done to rule out allot of things.

    You could have something going on with your esophagus- from the acid you explained, which can also make you nauseous. You could have a bad gallbladder- all of these things a GI doctor can help you with.
