Phlegm at the back of my throat causing very strong gag reflexes.

It has been a few days now. There is phlegm at the back of my throat, causing very strong gag reflexes. Today, I gagged so hard that I vomited.
    What to do?

Medical history: I'm prone to sore throat and laryngitis.

    [22M, 130 lbs]

The cause of phlegm is usually post nasal drip from allergies. Do you take an antihistamine?

    Thank you
Yes, I have a post nasal drip issue. Probably that's causing the gags.
    No, I don't take antihistamines.
    What do you recommend?

You will have to just try OTC ones till you find one that works. I take Zyrtec. Claritin and Allegra seem to work for others. Or you might ask your doctor.

I purchased Claritin 10 mg. How much dosage would you recommend?

I would also suggest Mucinex twice daily...drink enough water throughout the day, and use a sinus rinse system (I use NeilMed squeese bottle) . If your sinuses tend to be blocked, try Sudafed.
The antihistamine can cause the mucus to become thicker...if that happens, stop taking it. Ask your doc for you to try Singulair.

Please keep us updated how you're doing. I live with it daily, but I have Sjogrens as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! But, I just noticed that I get this feeling only after meals.
