    Burning Mouth Syndrome

Does anyone have this syndrome. It comes on suddenly and it feels like the roof of your mouth or your tongue or anywhere in your mouth is constantly burned. If so, what helped for you?

    Re: Burning Mouth Syndrome

I have just experienced this for the first time this week..I would also appreciate if someone could give some advice, as to what type doctor to see (family, ENT, allergist, dentist)?, and what has helped for them.

    Thanks!

    Re: Burning Mouth Syndrome

My symptoms lasted about 3 weeks. I went to the dentist and he said that I was allergic to something and proceeded to ask what I changed in my daily routine. I didn't change anything. I had been using a sensative tooth paste for a couple of years so I didn't think that was the problem.

At his advice, I decided to change to Total by Colgate and the burning cleared up in about a week. Maybe it was a coincidence but I don't have the problem anymore and it hasn't come back for a year now.

    Re: Burning Mouth Syndrome

If there are red areas in mouth as well as burning, it most likely is a virus according to my dentist. Using Listerin mint flavored mouthwash helped the misery, otherwise it just has to run it's course.

How old are you? I've been doing a lot of research on perimenopause and menopause lately and that is a symptom, if you are within the age of such a thing, it's a good possibility it may be that.

    Re: Burning Mouth Syndrome

Ask your doctor or do an internet search and see if this is a side effect of your medication. Sometimes, you can have a delayed effect to the medicine and that may be what is going on.

    Re: Burning Mouth Syndrome

I know its been a couple years for you. How did you get rid of the burning mouth discomfort? Its going on 6 months for me. I've gone to the dr, ENT & dentist. Had blood work done & tried vitamin B. I'm depressed & frustrated. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
