    Face constantly flushed... Wha- ???

Yea, I just registered to ask this particular question. Wondering if I could get some opinions on this. Ok, here is the deal:

Im 17, and am in high school. For the majority of my teenage years, I've had this redness on my cheeks, and it looks like my face is constantly flushed. (When I do something embarrassing, then I get REALLY red... Which is even worse ) I was wondering what causes this, and what I can do to get rid of it... or at the very least, make it slightly less noticable. I havnt asked any doctors about it, because its only recently been bothering me (Im almost certain, its detracting from my appearance in the eyes of girls ) I have had a few theory's on this. My main theory goes somewhere along the lines of my blood vessels being too close to the skin, hence the red appearance. But the others are far-fetched.

Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks a lot guys

I'm not going to diagnose you - but have you looked up Rosacea? There are different levels of it. I have had it since I was 25 or so - but teens can have it, too - though generally many people don't have complete symptoms until they are older. I had a huge flare then (beyond red - swelling and pustles and such) that kept getting worse and worse - and had to take antibiotics for nearly a year to get back to normal - after I was finally diagnosed. I have always been a flusher - and have had to take care to keep my flushing to a minimum - because when I do, it doesn't not go away quickly.

If it is rosacea or simply an allergy - do not use facial products with witch hazel. Before I made it to a dermatologist, I tried lots of things. Witch hazel and me do not go together - most otc acne stuff just made things many times worse. Witch hazel, even small amounts, makes me face red and swollen immediately. The only other thing that does this as fast is if I consume any more than a minute amout of cheese. I haven't eaten anything other than certain kinds of soy cheese in three and a half years. My face gets red and then itches like crazy - and then swells.

Well, its never done anything quite like yours, but thats not saying that its not in its mature phase yet, so to say. I will say, on the other hand, that Ive never had it flare up. I a very avid computer junkie, maybe perhaps getting out in the sun (to get a slight tan) would help cover it up? I dont really have any intent on going to any "specialist" doctors....

A flushed face is also a symptom of high blood pressure. You might want to have it checked out by your regular doctor, just to be sure. It may be nothing at all.

My face gets red when i am embarraced or hot. I just use some sunless tanning lotion on my face. I mix it with regular lotion just so there is like a glowing tan not a orange tan. It works really well.

I wouldn't ignore the situation, at a minimum have your blood pressure checked to be sure it is ok. Teens can have high blood pressure and have been known to die of heart attacks. This occurs more often in folks who do sports but it can happen to the average teen as well.
It could very well be Rosacea and that should be looked at.

    The signs and symptoms are:
    Primary Signs of Rosacea
    Flushing
    Persistent Redness
Bumps and Pimples - Small red solid bumps or pus-filled pimples often develop. While these may resemble acne, blackheads are absent and burning or stinging may occur.
    Visible Blood Vessels
    Other Potential Signs and Symptoms
    Eye Irritation
Burning or Stinging sensations may often occur on the face. Itching or a feeling of tightness may also develop.
    Dry Appearance
Plaques or Raised red patches, known as plaques, may develop without changes in the surrounding skin.
    Skin Thickening
    Swelling
Rosacea signs and symptoms may also develop beyond the face, most commonly on the neck, chest, scalp or ears.

There are 4 different types. It needs treated with medication either topical or a pill. Laser correction can also be used. There is no cure for it but it can be controlled. Left untreated it can get worse. If they catch it early enough the progression can be stopped before real damage occures.
If you do go out into the sun make sure you are wearing proper protection if you have it.

Overall I really think you should be checked by a doctor if you feel this is what you have because it doesn't go away on its own and definately needs treatment. It isn't fatal but it can be very annoying and probably painful. It can cause permanent damage to your face/skin.
