Knot/Lump along esophagus

Last night, I happened to notice I have a small knot/lump along my esophagus, right where the Adam's Apple would be on a man. It's along the right side of my throat/esophagus. It's not painful, no problems swallowing, no cough, weight loss, anything that would signifiy something cancerous, but I'm concerned about it. I should probably just go have it checked, but wondering if anyone had any opinions or has anyone had something like this before. Are there glands or lymph nodes right there at your esophagus?

Perhaps it could be your thyroid gland. You should go to your doctor to check it out. He/she can do a manual exam and send you for blood tests. It sounds like it could be from what you have described. Good luck!

I wondered about that, but I didn't think your thyroid gland was that far toward the center of your neck/throat area. Hmm...I'll definitely check that out.

Hey Barbiegal-
The thyroid gland is located in the middle of the lower neck, below the larynx (voice box) and just above your clavicles (collarbones). It is shaped like a "bow tie." Does that seem like the same place? Good luck.

It's actually a bit higher than that - right AT the voice box, I believe. It's about an inch and a half to 2" above the "center" of your throat (kind of that indentation right between your collar bones). Right to the right of that bone (or voicebox) at the center of the neck (if that makes any sense at all!)

This could be a goiter. Your doctor can refer you for tests and if necessary a biopsy depending on test results. Most likely, it will just be a cyst that can be drained.

While the advice the others have given you seems sound, and I don't want to alarm you, I'd see a doc to be on the safe side. My cousin had thyroid cancer, so it scares me when anyone talks about swelling in his/her neck. A lump in the throat can be a symptom of other kinds of cancer too. However, it is most likely not cancer, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

i have the same feeling since 3 weeks now. what is it? did you find sollution?
