Question Gritty Crackling Sound When I turn My head

Hi there,

I have searched everywhere i can but have came up with no answers other then maybe fluid in the middle ear which my ENT said there is no fluid in my ears.

For the past few months i get this weird crackling gritty sound like gravel when i turn my head side to side or rotate it around in circles.
This is only when i move my head but doesnt make this sound if i move my head with my body at the same time.

I have no headachs other then the normal one here and there and have no pain or soreness with this.

I have bad anxiety as it is and now this is really adding to my anxiety because im terrified this is some life threatening thing and im dying!

I do have an appt to go back to my ENT but not until June and he doesnt think its anything to do with my ears so im not sure why i even made an appt to go back to him!

Any suggestions what this could be anyone?

Thanks you

Re: Gritty Crackling Sound When I turn My head

The cracking sound in your neck is probably caused by gas bubbles being released from the joints. The joints contain oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide gasses and which when you hear cracking it could be the result of the joint capsule being rapidly stretched, causes the formation and release of gas bubbles. I use to get that a lot. It's not a big deal, If that's what is causing it. Then again it may be arthritis in the joint but that's usually associated with pain.

Re: Gritty Crackling Sound When I turn My head

Thanks for your reply ... but i really dont feel that this is coming from my neck.
Its more in my head like behind my nose between the ears.

It realy sounds like fluid swishing back and forth when i turn my head side to side but like i said the ENT said there was no fluid in my ears when he checked.
