I have had an ulcer on each side of the inside of my mouth since July 2007. They started going down after they first appeared, but got to a point where they stopped and can easily increase in size if I accidentally bite them (rarely happens though) as well as occassionally making it difficult to talk when they rub my teeth.I used bonjella for weeks then went to my GP and was first advised to take vitamin tablets and a few months later folic acid tablets. I have recently been prescribed adcortyl, but alas it's not really doing much and it doesn't stay in my mouth easily either. The ulcers are long and narrow and are located just above my front lower Molar teeth. Why aren't they going away and what else can be done to get rid of them?

Re: Mouth ulcer won't go away
maybe there is something lacking in your diet?
however if i had sores in my mouth that long sounds like a visit is called for to the dentist or mouth doctor
it sounds like more than mouth sores or canker having them that long

I understand your pain on this one. I get canker sores alot (I actually have had some now for going on 2 weeks). They are caused by a virus. You need to go back to your dr or to another dr or try your dentist and try to find out the cause. I usually get them when I am sick, cold or sinus infection. Have you tried kanda? You can get this over the counter and it is the best thing over the counter that I have found. It numbs the area for a good bit. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Have you been checked for an abscess infection?

My ulcer has never been painful, just occasionally uncomfortable and a general pestilence all around that refuses to subside.
Abscess infection- err not had that checked no.

Eh, if you haven't experienced any pain I wouldn't worry about an Abscess then. Anytime I have had an abscess it has been extremely painful. That's not to say that they may not be painful for some, I just never heard of them not being painful.

Try using an ulcer treatment called Frador. YOu apply four times a day with an applicator. Did the trick for me!

Re: Mouth ulcer won't go away
Try Rembrandt's toothpaste for canker sores (I think it's called "for sensitive mouths" now) or Jason Powersmile organic toothpaste; they are missing an ingredient that is in almost all toothpastes called sodium lauryl sulfate, which is what causes the toothpaste to foam. Some people are very sensitive to this ingredient and may have mouth sores all the time (my son is one of them). There is also a treatment called Amason which I think you have to get in a pharmacy...but the best luck we have had over the years is with avoiding the SLS.

If the sores are inside the cheeks, it could be infected salivia glands.
I use Listerine mouthwash for canker sores and other mouth irritations, works great.
