    i have a really tight chest. :(

    Hello.

I joined here to see if anybody can help me. x

the past few days i have had a really tight chest, and have been struggleing to breath. I have also had huge headaches, feeling dizzy, tired, not sleeping properly, i also feel kind of detached from things and sort of spaced out sometimes, like i am watching everything go on, and im not really there.

I posted a topic about it on another forum i use (a rabbit forum) and one of the members replied with this. >

Hi. I have panic attacks and also hyperventilation disorder (where you breathe either too quickly or too deeply - normally from your chest instead of your diaphragm (sp?) ) This can cause lots of side effects and definately stress can be a factor. it could be the case you are slowly hyperventilating due to stress and this could cause the tight chest. Taking really deep breaths can worsen the problem as its caused by taking in too much oxygen and not exhaling enough C02. The best way to test is to put your hand on your chest and the other one on your diaphragm and when you breathe the hand on your chest shouldnt really rise and your other hand on your tummy should. If your chest rises more than the tummy one then you arent breathing properly.
To regulate your breathing you should count for 4 slowly on the inbreath and out for 5. It doesnt have to be exact for that but as long as the outbreath is for longer than the inbreath. Hope this helps and hope you are ok x

Common side effects are tiredness, dizzyness, shortness of breath and tightness in chest etc
Now, i am acording to this members post, not breathing 'propery' and the only way i can breath properly is if i am lyeing down.

Things have been very stressful lately, as my mum is going through chemothereapy. Could this have bought it on?

Do you think im hyperventilating? If i am is there any way i can control it? i mean, i have just walked up the stairs and i feel as if i have ran a marathon.

Thank you for reading, i hope you can help.
    Mai xox

    Hi,

It does sound like you are getting stressed out. When I get to this point and I have several times within the last year, I go to someplace quiet and listen to music and read. I also try taking some deep breaths and I do take myself away from everything. This has allowed me to calm down and begin to put things into perspective.

Good luck and I hope this helps you.

Good Luck to your mother and I hope you both are feeling better soon.

    Hi Mai,

Stress and anxiety can do horrible things to your body. Everything you described, I have experienced with stress. I get so bad that I can't eat or sleep for days...

That's probably what it is, but you should see a doctor to rule out anything more. Maybe it is allergies or it could be pneumonia. Are you running any kind of fever? If so, it could be a viral or bacterial infection.

I hope you and your Mum are feeling better soon,

    JB

The symptoms you describe can be experienced by people with magnesium deficiencies....magnesium deficiencies are more common than once thought. Meds, diets, and consuming too much calcium (which can compete with magnesium) are thought to be factors in throwing our bodies magnesium out of whack.

You might want to look more closely at your diet.

Yes, go see the doctor who can check you over. If it turns out to be anxiety, the doctor may consider medication for anxiety if you continue to feel this way.
