    Drunken/Stoned Feeling

For the last three months or so, I've constantly had this drunk/stoned feeling. Initially, I passed it off as something trivial, but after a week or so I saw a GP who said it was probably an after-effect of the flu and gave me some generic symptomatic pills. The problem still persisted though and I saw 2 ENT specialists, one who said it was probably just migraines and the other who diagnosed me with Menieres and he set me on 0.25mg Xanax and 8mg Betaserc, along with some decongestants (I have ear fullness/congested nose sensation in the right ear/nostril) which seemed to help. However, I'm not entirely convinced that i have Menieres - the strange stoned feeling doesn't come in attacks, it's constantly there, ditto the ear fullness. I'm also able to take in caffeine (i drink a cup every week) without intensifying the problem and eat fairly high-sodium foods.

Anyhow, just a few days ago, I was struck by a throat infection (still suffering from it), and it seemed to aggravate this "stoned" problem a lot. Moving around feels awkward and food seems to have that lingering taste in my mouth although it's not nearly as enjoyable as getting the munchies.

Along the way I've also had some minor symptoms, which i'm not sure are significant or not, such as:

    Tiredness (gone now)
Strange tingling in certain parts of the neck (gone now)
    Slight shaking in the hands
Muffled reverbaration of voice when speaking, in right ear
A slight taste of blood when I try to clear my congested nostril
Lower sperm production (possibly a side-effect of Xanax?)

Whilst this feeling isn't exactly overbearing, it is noticeable and I am concerned. More importantly, I would really prefer it if I could go through the rest of life not feeling like a pothead to be honest haha. I haven't had any tests done (as the doctor said an MRI was unnecessary, ditto blood tests) besides an endoscopy and a hearing test where the doctor noted some swelling. My hearing was perfectly normal however.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance

edit: apologies if this is in the wrong forum

    Re: Drunken/Stoned Feeling

I often feel very out of it/drunk/stoned. For me it seems to be the worst in the morning and I often stumble around quite a bit because my balance is off. I also have the fullness in my ear feeling. I've determined that it seems to be chronic allergies causing at least part of the feeling. I won't necessarily be sneezing or anything, but I notice that I always have some pressure on my face, likely sinus issues. When my sinuses drain, I get throat pain. I did a sinus rinse not too long ago and felt that it really helped me feel more alert and a lot of the pressure was gone, but my throat was bothering me a good amount, so I'm not so sure I'd like to use it regularly. I've been taking allergy medication with decongestants each day and it's been helping, but it's not a 100% cure. Maybe one day I'll look into prescription allergy meds and see how that works, but I also just recently started taking Prozac and Xanax, and I know those make me very relaxed and not completely alert anyway (the funny feeling started BEFORE taking these though and has been around for some time). I've had various blood work done with nothing coming up abnormal. I eat a very healthy diet, exercise regularly, and drink a lot of water. I have a little bit of coffee each day, which helps me get going when I feel extra woozy in the morning. I think laying down to sleep can just affect your balance when your ears/sinuses are all stopped up. I am pretty sure I am allergic to some of the trees near where I live. Even my dogs have to take steroids for their allergies since we moved there! I am also prone to migraines, but I only get one about once a month and do a pretty good job preventing them since I've been figuring out what triggers them.

Do you think it can simply be some congestion in your sinuses and ears? This can definitely make you feel pretty bad. My mom once got a CT scan to see her sinuses were completely blocked up. I don't necessarily feel any pain, just pressure. It's possible for this to cause the throat issues too and the blood taste. I used to always taste blood when I was having throat problems related to allergies (especially when I used to get tonsil stones, which were very painful).

If it isn't allergy related, I'd look into it simply being an inner ear imbalance. Maybe the fluids just are not balanced right in your ears, giving the same symptoms minus the allergies.

Hope you are able to find the definite cause!
