Chest tightness, difficulty taking a deep breath, constant yawning...

Almost a week ago I started having a difficult time taking a deep breath, and my chest has been feeling really tight. I've been constantly yawning to get a deep breath, but sometimes I cant even complete a yawn. I've been having some chest pains as well, but nothing severe. Family members I talk to say it's most likely anxiety related, but I'm not feeling anxious or nervous.

On a possibly unrelated note, I started taking a once-a-day birth control pill a day before these symptoms began. Also, I've quit smoking when I started the birth control. I thought it could be related to smoking, but since its been about a week without one cigarette I'm growing more unsure. I've also been feeling some pain in my back and shoulder on the left side, like muscle cramps, but I don't know if these are related or not.

My doctor wont be taking appointments for the next week, and the week following is Thanksgiving, so getting an appointment seems like it might be difficult for a while, so I'm faced with waiting it out or going to a walk in emergency center. Any feedback at all would be wonderful, thanks!

It started the day after you began taking the medicine. I find it hard to believe it's unrelated.

Call the doctor who prescribed the BC pills, let him know you are experiencing some shortness of breath.

Absolutely agree you should call your doctor and note your symptoms.
