Do you experience insomnia on advair?

Advair and others rescue inhalers can cause insomnia. I have had better luck with Xopenex, but it has only bronchodilator, not steroid in it. The steroid can be taken separately though with a different inhaler. You just use 2 inhalers instead of the combo. I don't know if your body/brain will adapt in time. The medicine is like taking adrenaline or caffeine. I would discus it with your Dr. The other possibility is to not use it after 5-6 PM so it is worn off by bedtime, if your breathing is ok.

The bronchial dialator in the Advair is the cause. You might ask for a two separate meds - a straight steroid one (Like Flovent) and then a separate rescue inhaler - like albuterol - that you only use during an attack. Most people adjust to Advair after a while so you could give it more time - or take a benedryl for a few day at bedtime to offset the upper in the Advair.

Thank you for responses. I am not exaggerating. I took the advair 12 hours apart, which was about 9pm last night, and I was awake all night. Not a wink of sleep. I have taken it as early as 5pm, and also did not sleep at 10pm.
I would like to take it once a day. Do you think it would work taken 1x a day? I am not taking it again today. I have not slept in a week.

So a rescue inhaler used at night will not cause insomnia, like albuterol? I have ventolin.

VEntolin is albuterol and it is an upper just like what's in the Advair. The steroid in it is for the inflammation and the albuterol is to open up (dialate) your bronchial tubes. So it's a combo drug. I would call your doctor and ask for a single med like Flovent which is just the inhaled steroid and should not keep you awake and just use the ventolin as needed for an attack.
