Sporadic chest pains

About twice a week I get really bad pains in my chest, on the right side of my sternum if I put my hand up to it and apply pressure it seems to help but the second I let off the pressure it hurts twice as bad as before. It takes my breath away and my heart also races when this happens, anyone have any idea why or what could be causing this?

Re: Sporadic chest pains

Do you have a heart history? The fact that it feels better when you 'apply pressure to it' sounds like it could be muscular. If you are able to take motrin, try that. If motrin helps, that could confirm it's muscular. Monitor the symptoms. Call your doctor if anything worsens. Take care!
