Does anyone else get these symptoms with their migraines

Hi: I am sorry if this turns out to be a long post, but I have several questions. I have had migraines for ten years now, but for the last four years I have had daily headaches with severe migraines. There has not been a day in the last four years that I haven't had a headache of some type. I have at least 3 migraines a week, which would mean I almost have one everyday with a few breaks in between. I have been to several neurologists, to the two top hospitals in the world for migraines, and no one can seem to help. I know all about not taking daily pain medication becuase of rebound headaches, but even when I was limited on my pain meds, I still had just as many headaches. I want to know if other people get numbness and weakness with their migraines, and if so how long does it last? I get it sometimes and before the longest it lasted was 2 days. That was the first time I got it. Other times would just come and go and not really last that long, and didn't really include complete paralysis. But, recently I spent a week in the hospital because my whole side went numb, and it still feels weird two weeks later. I have a little feeling, but not complete. I also have severe eye pain, muscle spasms, tremors and tingling in my right foot. There are a few other things as well, like short term memory loss and vision problems, but I could go on forever. Does anyone else have these symptoms and have been told that they are related to their migraines. Or, does your doctors do what mine does and ignore some of the symptoms I have just talked about. This has been four hard years on my family and we are just looking for answers. Please HELP!!!

    copingwithpain,
I have some, in fact, most of the same symptoms. My pain is usually manageable if I take some Advil Migraine before the headache sets in. I get impaired vision, some numbness (which is pretty recent) and occassionally, my speech is impaired about an hour after the migraine ends. I just want to ask if you have ever been to a chiropractor? I know from experience how helpful they can be. My migraines used to be stress and back related and now are more related to atmospheric pressure but are very manageable and very few and far between. If you have never been to a chiropractor, consider researching one in your area and just check it out. As with all doctors, the relief may not be immediate but, I have found them to provide relief nearly immediately in my migraine history. If you are in such horrible pain and question the validity of chiropractors, please just consider that it can't hurt to try if you haven't already.

Good luck and I hope you find your much deserved relief soon.

Yes, I have been to a chiropractor. Doesn't help. I have stuck with doctors for along time. Have taken over 25o different kinds of meds, and none help. Been there done it all. A chiropractor does not help at all. I saw one for a year just to see, and it doesn't work. My symptoms don't just last a few hours, that is why we think something more serious is going on. My symptoms can last for days. This last time I had slurred speech for 3 days, that is why I was put in the hospital. Even my neuro says migraine patients symptoms only last a few hours, pkus I had an abnormal MRI. I am going to go see one more specialist tomorrow though to see what they think. My neuro from here mentioned ms, so we are checking in to it. I look on websites for migraines, and my symptoms do not go along with it at all. Some do, but a lot don't. I just want answers. Thanks for the idea of a chiropracoter though. I wish it worked. I have been hospitalized 18 times in the last 4 years for my migraines, and nothing has helped. I wish it was as easy as you say, but in my case and in the case of some friends I have made by being in the hospital, we just can't seem to find the right help. Hopefully this will be my answer on Saturday.

Sorry, one more reply...It is hard to take the medication before my headache sets in, because I always have one. Plus Advil Migraine is like candy to me. They put me on morphine and it doesn't help. Just takes the edge off.

Re: Does anyone else get these symptoms with their migraines

I get some of the same symptoms with my migraines. I get numbness in my arm, hand, face, and sometimes tongue. Visual disturbances with flashing lines, and blacked out spots. Sensativity to light and sounds, and I feel little spaced out feeling until all the symptoms go away. The whole episode usually lasts under an hour now.

I no longer get the extreme pain that usually follows the other symptoms. Sometimes I'll get a slight headache, but not the typical crushing pain that I used to get when I was younger. I take 800 mgs of Ibuprofen, with a diet coke at the very first sign of one coming on. It doesn't stop it entirely, but I believe it lessens the severity a great deal.

I've had only one episode where I had lingering visual disturbances that lasted a couple weeks. It felt like I was looking through a thick distorted glass, and I was sensative to bright light, but no pain. I have never had paralysis with any of mine. Even when I'm numb, I can still move my hands and fingers. I just can't feel anything.

I'm assuming that you have had CAT scans, or MRI's to rule out any signs of stroke? Migraines have a lot of similar symptoms as strokes, and TIA's.

I hope you can get some answers, and will feel better soon.
