    Strange head pains. Getting worried.

I have been having headaches every day now for months. They range from barely there to "please kill me now to stop this horrid horrid pain." I have had a cat done but it came up fine. My doctor has me taking some perscription that's basically used like an aspirin. They help the pain go away sometimes but they do not help nearly enough. I also have strange pains in my head. They are very sudden, sharp pains in just one spot of my head. They only last for a few seconds. They make me very dizzy and sometimes cause me to have vertigo. I also lose control of my head for a second. It's like I am unable to hold it up. I also have some occasional auras. I was driving home once and had one of those pains and I could smell my mom's perfume all the way home. It was like she was sitting right next to me. My Dr. can't explain these pains to me. I was going to ask him to refer me to a specialist. Anyone know anything about these strange pains? I'm going crazy! I can't function with the constant headaches and the occasional dizzying pain. Help!

CATs' are fine but an MRI (from what I have heard) are much more effective.

First off you need to relax yourself. The possibility that something is extremely wrong is rare since your CAT was fine.

Things you can do to help yourself:

    * Stay away from caffine as it will increase BP(blood pressure) and/or heart rate and may result in "head pains".
    * Put a heating pad on the back of your neck. Although you may not notice it - there may be tension there causing this.
    * Dizziness can be caused by a few things such as lack of blood and/or oxygen to the brain (which tention can cause) or vertigo. If stress is present in your life the tension is most likely to blame.
    * If you are physically able to - exercise. By doing cardio, this releases stress and therefore can help your overall health. Believe me...this really helps.
    * Check your BP daily. Once at night and once during the day (morning). Keep a good track of your BP for about a month and log your own findings in a notebook. By doing this you can see how your BP levels are throughout the day and maybe even determine what is causing your BP to rise.

I hope this helps and remember, if you continue to stress over the pain - your pain will not go away because you are now causing the pains to become much greater since your BP is up. You are infact now creating the pain.

    God Bless.

Thanks so much that really does help a lot. I will try those things. I will also ask my doctor about an MRI. I have never had one done and I'm not sure how it works. Can anyone tell me how they do it? Do they inject dye into you like they do a CAT?

Do you have uncontrolled hypertension? Definately get a diagnosis.
If these are migraines, they may be controlled with a drug like Maxalt or Imatrex (sp?). Also, you can go on prophylactic therapy like daily beta blockers.
