Menstrual Migraines...weird heartbeat and migraines?
Hello,
This is my first post.
I have about 9-10 migraines each month. I have a journal and I thought the migraines were around my cycle, but I'm not sure anymore. My heart has done this weird beat for years and gets worse when I'm under stress. I can't describe it well - like my heart is having trouble swallowing, or burping/fluttering feeling - maybe 5-10 seconds. Of course it doesn't happen continously or ALL time and never happens at the Dr's office or when I was hooked up for 5 minute to some machine. It does happen daily and especially when under stress. I'm wondering if I might have the FPO? heart chamber flap thing I have recently read about?
Anyway...Meds I am on - I take Effexor XR daily, and have taken Imitrex - which has been great when I feel onset or have a migraine.
Now my Dr. is trying to bring down the number of migraines I have each month by having me take a daily medication. So, I tried Verapamil (spelling) and I broke out in a rash. Now I have been taking Amitriptyine for about 6 weeks. I'm up to 20 mg and I swear taking this drug is a waste of my time! It makes me groggy and doesn't even help my migraines. I have called my Dr. to mention this and I was told to "keep taking the medication". Now I'm frustraited and skipped my does yesterday. I'm taking my dose tonight because I'm feeling guilty and read that I should't stop taking it abruptly.
Does anyone have any daily medication suggestions I can ask my Dr. for?
Thanks for your help!
