daily chronic headache

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site and I am happy to find out I am not alone in the world suffering from my headache pain. I thinking it's wonderful that people can give hope and advice to others suffering from headaches. I have searched this forum but haven't found any answers for my headache, so I thought I would post a message myself. Any comments are welcome.

I am a 32 year male and I have being suffering from a chronic headache for four months now. It is constant and continuous, from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep. Sleep at night is the only relief I get and sometimes I can't wait until the day is over just so I can go to sleep and not feel anymore pain.

The headache is like a tension headache. It is pressure in my temples, mostly my left temple. Sometimes it changed to the right and other times it's pressure in my entire head. I have no other symptoms, but this pain in my temples. I have had tension headaches before, but they have always gone away with pain meds. I have never had chronic pain like this before.

I have been to so many doctors, and a neurologist who didn't know why or how to treat this. I had blood work and on MRI done and everything came back negative and in "perfect health." I've tried many migraine meds, pain meds, headache meds and nothing works. I've also been to the chiropractor, and for acupuncture, massage, even yoga. Still no relief. I finally went to a Holistic Center, and I've been on herbal supplements for a month now to help with a "mineral deficiency and a sugar in balance." The headache intensity is less, but it still does not go away. And sometimes it comes back full force. This weekend I am going to try a muscle relaxer that a headache specialist gave me. God, I hope this works to "break the cycle."

I feel like I have done everything possible to find out why I have this continuous headache and how to make it go away. Honestly, it's making me really depressed and so irritable. I hate it.

So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know.

Hi Jack, let us know how the muscle relaxer works. I have tried lots of meds for the headaches and nothing works except 800 mg ibuprofen, sometimes 3 0r 4 of them. I do take flexeril once in a while and it does help. I think headaches are the worst, they can just debilitate you, and no one seems to know why you get them. I have had them for 12 years. So I wish you much luck in your search for an answer.

No luck yet. I did start the Tizanidine this weekend. How long did it take for the flexeril to work for you? I was hoping it would work right away. But nothing else has, so why should this one. I am also on a new set of herbs for the headache. My god, I hope it ends soon! It can't go on forever. I mean, it's 2007. People can get nose jobs and cheek bones implanted, and there are so many meds out there for everything, even E.D. Why can't anyone heal our headaches? I am not giving up hope!

Speaking of healing your headache, there is nice book out there called just that, "Heal Your Headache" that I got a few months ago. It focuses on diet as our main headache causes. Do you restrict your diet at all, Jack? I suffer too from frequent headaches - they are just so, so depressing! Mine started at the beginning of this year.

I'm following that diet - it seems to work pretty well (not always though).

I know you've already heard this I'm sure, but there are TONS of migraine meds out there. Sometimes you have to experiment with several before you find the right one. It sounds like you are actually living in a migrainous state and need to break that cycle. I'm with ya - I too need to figure out something to give me relief! I am thinking of trying FROVA or something like that...

Thanks for the book idea. I'll look it up. I've been continuing my research on finding out what this headache is and I've still come up empty. I just have no other symptoms. I have never had food allergies before and I do eat pretty healthy. I am also cutting back on my sugar and coffee intake. But I will continue to explore my diet. Maybe something will come out of it. I just need something to stop the daily headache. I swear it never goes away. I see the doctor again in November. Maybe he can hit me over the head with a hammer and knock this f**cker out.

I have had a chronic daily "tension" headache for over 3 years now. I know how you feel Jack. I have been to at least 10 different types of doctors, sinus surgery, jaw surgery, chiro, acupuncture, massage, steroids, uncountable amount of meds (except for pain meds), 4 MRI, CT scans, x-rays, I even went as far as a "psychic" woman. I have found nothing that has worked, and I mean nothing. I have taken every over the counter med there is. I just spent $5,000 on some quack who calls himself a nueromuscular dentist who, after he got his money, gave me a hard plastic mouth piece. I could have died. I cried so hard after that. I just spent another $600 on botox in my head and neck just a week ago. They say it takes two weeks to see the affect. I pray that it will work, I am at my wits end. I have to quit college and refused to get married until I get rid of my headache because I can't be a normal person anymore and I am only 26!!

I had daily headaches and daily nosebleeds (right nostril only) for three years....CT scans, antibiotics and pain meds constantly!!! All came to an abrupt end one month after I started taking Lexapro for anxiety. Have since been off of the Lexapro for 4 months....they haven't returned yet!!(knock on wood)Perhaps it was all serotonin related??
