Post I have headaches ALL the time.

Hello All,
I have been suffering headaches almost daily for the last year and a half. I think I have gone at the most 2 months without a headache since then. The most I have gone at a time without a headache has been about a week. I get headaches during allergy seasons (spring and fall for 6-8 weeks). But after spring season 2001, the headaches continued. I finally went to the doctor in October of 2001. I have hypertension and the doctor put me on Propranolol. It is also used as a Migraine medicine for some people. It hasn't helped at all. I suffered whiplash in a car accident in 1999. So, I am now investigating whether I have TMJ and am seeing a TMJ specialist in 2 weeks. I am tired of taking Advil constantly. If I take it consistently, I go through a bottle of 50 Advil in 2 weeks or less. Anyway, I will update this as I find out more.

See if you can find, in your area, a neuromuscular therapist trained in structural assessment and atlas-axis mobilization. These are powerful treatment protocols for treating chronic pain conditions including migraines and tmj. The atlas-axis work was developed from a migraine research study at a Detroit area hospital.

best wishes to you,

You need to STOP taking all that Advil as you may be suffering from rebound headaches. When you take medication like that for pain you can easily get into rebound headaches from overuse so stop the Advil and give your head a rest. Ask your doc via the phone what he recommends doing in the meantime. I am surprised he didn't mention the possibility of rebound headaches to you. You also mention allergies...........what are you taking for your allergies? Some of those things might help too. In the meantime though get off the Advil and see if maybe the propanolol doesn't start to help your headaches once you body is off the Advil.

I know about the rebound headaches and I did stop taking Advil for about 2 months and that didn't help at all. I did some looking at my records and it SEEMS like I have a headache every day and I do have lots of headaches, usually anywhere from 4-6 a week. There have been a few weeks I have only had 3 headaches....sure wish I knew what I was doing right those weeks. I have tried a food diary to see if I am eating the wrong foods, but that didn't seem to help much. Maybe I need to see a nutritionist. I take Clarinex for the allergies, only in spring and fall. I also exercise, not daily, but I walk three times a week, usually.

You may need to get allergy shots or take the clarinex more often. One other possibility is trying a different allergy medication as some work better for others. Are you on birth control at all? Migraines are a common side effect of the pill. You might also consider seeing a chiropractor for your headaches too as this can be helpful. Watch the weather too to see if maybe your headaches are related to the barometric pressure changes. What about MSG causing your headaches? Lots of products use MSG when they are made and you would have to read every lable to know if MSG was in a product. Also food allergies...........did they test your for extensive food allergies when you had your allergy testing done? Not all docs do extensive food allergy tests with special request for this. Just trying to throw more ideas out for you to look at.
