Neither of those drugs will generally help a bad migraine...in fact with Lyrica it may cause more problems since there are so many side effects from it...also Lyrica is something you have to take over time for it to be effective.
and vicoden doesn't help with stopping the migraine. Why are you not on official migraine medicines?...like Imitrex ? I have had migraines for 20 years that take me down also...I don't always have any of the normal symptoms associated with migraines and Brain scans were normal. My migraines are the same extreme intensity after all these years and sometimes the oral Imitrex at 100mg just doesn't work so I have to inject with a special injectable Imitrex set up that you can use at home. I'm not hearing that more was done to address your migraines with the usual migraine medicines and I would guess they are migraines since your brain scan was normal. Sorry I know the pain you are in and hope you are given the correct medicines for your situation. Good luck.

Im concerned for you that these headaches may be of a neurological origin, Have your doc recommend a good neurologist and get an appointment. The thing that leads me thinking that way is you saying you have loss of control of your legs during these episodes. The vision problems signal a red flag to me as well. I would not waste time, get a referral to a good neurologist and get to teh bottom of this fast. Keep us posted, ok? You said yourself this is different. Your body is telling you its in trouble, and it is your best reference.

have you been to a neurologist yet? Topomax is pretty a heavy duty preventative. Try to find a doc that specializes in migraines. Do you keep a headache journal? They can be invaluable to you and your doctor. I keep one. It starts from the time i get up..how i slept, congestion etc, weather, facial swelling/pain, headache pain, neck pain, what day in my cycle i'm on. Some times i'll put what foods i've eaten if i have a adverse reaction (flares indigestion etc)

2 more questions... Have you had your hormone levels checked? progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, thyroid etc. Having one out of whack can wreak havoc on your system

Have you tried any abortives? replax, frova, imitrex, many more i can't think of right now

Good luck..maybe at least some things to think about

Hate to say it, but migraines suck. But hang in there, see a neurologist, and get evaluated. For an extended migraine attack that totally disrupts everything and includes excrutiating, not stop intolerable pain is to get it under control through pain management, and have your neurologist work with you on this. From personal experience, my first migraine would not respond in relief to any neuro medications. It took a combination of heavy duty narcotics, hypnotics, prayer, and just going with the flow, not fighting it, just let it work its course. I'm 42 now, and it took a lot of trial and error to find the right combination with severe adverse side effects to manage the pain, function, and to live life. Remember it is a disease and there is no silver bullet (at least not yet). Utilize every tool available, i.e., biofeedback, relaxation, spiritual guideance, etc. and find the medications that are the most tolerable and find a neurologist, primary care doctor, etc. that will work with you and be honest with them in regards to the side effects. It's hard to explain all that is going on when you are in severe pain, but it is crucial to finding a tolerable solution.

Just wanted to add, everyone is different and what one med works for one, doesn't for another. Because of all the severe adverse side effects, and note I've been evaluated by a whole group of neurologists from the mayo clinic, I can't take Imitrex or any of the serotongic meds, depakote, ergots, (there is a whole list) because of a hypersensitivity and extreme adverse side effects, but it took a whole lot of trial and error and doctors that followed my care. But I have a positive outlook on life and utilize every tool available. Remember they don't know everything about the brain and are still learning otherwise we would all be cured....think about it!

Re: Please Please anyone I need help!!!!

Please go and get it checked out instantly. I suffered from really bad headaches since 2006, and at first i thought it was related to a migraine, but after getting checked out at the doctors, i was sent for a CT Scan, got my results and discovered that i had an enlarged Piturity Gland! At first i was given tablets to help reduce the pain, it took over my life, after 3 months i then went back and complained that the tablets didn't work (paramax) and was sent for an MRI Scan at the earliest possible date.
After having this i had my 1st operation in April and finished up with my 2nd operation in the middle of June 2008.
Now i am free from headaches, and also have regular check-up's with my optician as well.
Just from visiting your optician they can let you know if there is a problem.
So please make an appointment with your doctor, and sort this out.
Let me know how you get on? Post back on the board.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I suffer from Migraines as well. I have had a headache since 6/19/08 in which I had to be taken to the local ER by my ex husband. This is how I spent my 35th birthday. I know exactly what you are going through it is so bad you want to beat your head against the wall. You could have Cluster headaches with overlapping migraines. When I had my very 1st one in college in 97 they also did a CT Scan and it showed nothing. I found out last week that it is my birth control pills that are causing mine. She called it Estrogen Withdrawl. I'm not sure what all your are doing I tried to read all of the replies but my head is hurting too bad. I wish you luck. Hope all goes well.

Re: Please Please anyone I need help!!!!

i could not read your post but i could read the replies, if you have a headache that occurs on one side of the brain and usually starts at the eye causing nasal drainage and drupy watery eye. then what you have is not a migraine. it is actually called cluster headache. cluster headaches are more severe than migraine but last somewhere between 30 min to 2 hr. i get cluster headaches and i've been prescribed 2 drugs by my nurologist, indocin and inderal. the indocin or indomethacin is a strong NSAID and it is my fav drug of all time if i catch at when the eye starts hurting it kills the pain in its tracks. the other drug inderal is actually a blood prressure med, it is used to keep cluster headaches to a min. most people with cluster headaches have high blood pressure or hypertension. i suggest you google cluster headaches and see if that applies to you. if it does get those meds somehow and they may be a blessing to you as they have been for me. good luck i know they hurt
