This varies from person to person.

I experience migraines and some of my triggers include cheese (swiss, blue cheese, cheddar, mozzerella, parmesan, processed), chocolate, ice cream, pizza, hot dogs, pepperoni, bacon, sausage, ripe bananas, raspberries, red wine, raisins and caffeine to name a few.

When I'm experiencing headaches/migraines I steer clear of milk, chocolate, caffeine, bananas. They just worsen the pain. There's others but can't really think of them. Like dreams said, it's different with everyone. You kind of have to guage how sensitive you become when you eat stuff and decide for yourself if you should cut yourself off entirely or when you're sensing a headache come on, or while you are experiencing a headache.

Re: Headaches what to eat and what not to eat

You might want to write a food diary of the things you eat, how much you eat them as well as which foods trigger a headache/migraine. This is what I do and I always keep it in my kitchen so I can add to it and check it daily so that I can avoid foods that make me feel sick.

    Hope this helps.

I got a book called Heal your Headache by David Buccholtz. It talks about alot of triggers and how to clean out your diet. It's tough to eliminate all the fun stuff but it's worth it.

Re: Headaches what to eat and what not to eat

ive had headaches constantly for a really long time, when i was at school, the dr put me on anti depressants to stop the tension headaches from happening.
these worked well but if i ever forgot to take them, i had the most unbearable headache ever and it was horrible. i also didnt like the thought of being so reliant on anti depressants to keep the headaches away.
the dr let me wean myself off them, but ive stil beeng getting the headaches.
i realised only yesterday that it seems to be chocolate giving me the headache, and thats a very sad thought to think i need to stop eating it! BUT if its a cure to the headaches ive suffered with for years, then i think its worth the sacrifice!
its definately worth keeping an eye on what you eat, and how your body responds to it!
i didnt realise oranges could aggravate it too, i was told this last night, so i may have to keep an eye on all the other foods people have said makes theirs worse! thanks for your advice!

Re: Headaches what to eat and what not to eat

I found my headaches to be related to MSG's, found in many of the foods listed in this board. MSG's can go by many names so just because foods say "no MSG's" doesn't mean they're not there.

I would say many things in our diet could be factors so start with all natural for a while then see what triggers your headache.

Thanks to this site for allowing me to share my findings. Hope it helps.

I can tell you that my migraine triggers seem to be: Dark Chocolate, Milk chocolate, some nuts, MSG (a food additive), Nitrates (found in Hot dogs, sausage, kielbasa, etc). Possibly also artificial sweeteners, like aspartame, sucrolose (splenda), etc. Those are the main ones I am aware of.

I read the book too, (Heal Your Headache, by David Buccholtz) and it has worked wonders. Got it for a few bucks off ****** and it is easily the best money I have ever spent, considering the countless thousands spent on doctors, drugs and lost work over the years. The author is a medical doctor who has specialised in headaches.

He tells what not to eat and why. Also, the book helped me understand HOW to give things up and how to measure the success or otherwise of your efforts. Buy it and be free again!
