If I sleep for more than 6 hours, I get a terrible headache that lasts hours. Help!!

This is my first time posting here. My problem is simple:

I started having this problem about 2 years ago. I go to bed, fall RIGHT to sleep, and sleep like a baby. I rarely wake up for anything. However, if I don't get up within 6 hours or less, and I let myself sleep longer, I will completely waste that day. If I do it on a work day, I have to call off. If I'm OFF work that day, I have to lay in bed and just cry and wait for it to go away.

It's some of the most terrible pain ever. I have no idea what causes it. I don't understand why it only happens when I sleep MORE than 6 hours. I can understand getting a headache if I slept more than, say, 10 or 12 hours, but my God! People are SUPPOSED to get 8-9 hours a night!

I'm starting to develop anxiety and depression, and I've never had that problem. My feelings are that the anxiety and depression are stemming directly from the sleep deprivation.

Does ANYONE have ANY idea what this could mean? I'll be up for another hour, and I'll be checking this message board throughout the coming days. I sure hope someone can help, or at least point me in the right direction!

Hi Josh, I have the same thing happen. I have cervical spine issues which causes my headaches. Two bulging disc at c-5, c-6. I get epidurals for this and also trigger pint injections. In case you are wondering what caused my bulging discs, I haven't a clue. No accidents.
