    Re: constant headache

thank you all for these suggestions and your stories. it's comforting to know that im not the only one out there with this problem. my friends have given up on me and i need this support. please keep posting and updating me with your recent treatments/ successes/ failures. people who dont have these problems cant even begin to imagine what we go through.

My update-it was 20 months on march 15th. im currently on nortriptyline. i hate when it rains because that makes the headache worse. my dad doesnt seem to be phased by my pain, i can tell when he blasts the radio. i take oxycodone for when it gets too extreme and that brings it down to the normal level. im still playing soccer and rarely miss school because of it. my boyfriend and i have been together over 6 months, so he tries to help but doesnt fully understand. my mom is wonderful and supports everything i do with it.

thank you all and dont stop posting!

You could ask your doctor about adding an antiinflamatory to your nortriptyline, somthing like Naproxen 500mg twice a day

That can provide an additional level of background pain relief for you, its certainly worth asking your doctor about it.

    Re: constant headache

I too had a constant headache everyday for 1 1/2 years. I went to bed with it woke up with it-sometimes it would get pretty severe, other times it would just be a dull, constant headache. I tried everything!! Finally a friend told me about a physical therapist who specialized in neck issues (I had already tried PT before without success) and I decided to give it one more try. This guy evaluated me very for an hour and said "I can help you"! After a 1 hour session, I was scheduling my next appt.and looked up at him and said "I don't have a headache" It was a really weird sensation because I had had a headache for so long I had forgotten what it felt like not to have one. This only lasted for about a day, but I have been going back every week for about 6 weeks and am now headache free! I didn't even realize that I had neck, back issues and certainly didn't think this was the cause of my headaches because they were in the front of my head, but the relief has been unbelievable.
My suggestion would be to try and find a therapist who specializes specifically in the neck area and give it one more shot. I was not a believer when I went in, but sure am now!!

    Re: constant headache

I know you feel like you are alone in this situation but you are not, ive been dealing with a contant headache for a long time now (dont want to say how long, might get you discourge) but just keep taking it day by day and hour by hour and if your ever need anyone to talk to Im always an email away, even though i knowyou dont know me, it seems like we have a lot in common out sitiuation. When i read your post I was like whoa that was me and what i had gone thru in the past and if i only had someone there to talk to things might have been a little bit easier. So hopefully I can make it easier on you.
Let me tell you about me, me name if Megan Im 25 years old Ive had daily chronic headaches and migraines for a while over 5 years straight have not gone one day without pain its constant. Like yours gets worst with weather and stress or for no reason at all. Ive tried just about if not all the meds you can think of to get rid of/relieve the pain with little to no success unfortunatly. I have lost many friends due to the pain, hurt relationships due to the pain and still feel alone bc ppl just dont understand what im going thru. I feel alone. Luckly i have a wonderful family that does their best to understand and take care of me but that only goes so far. So enough about me. . .
I guess if you are interested in becoming friends and sharing stories and helping each other out contact me, i think we could help each other out.
Good luck to you with everything and i hope to hear from you soon.

20 years daily headache here - seen many specialists, including the proffessor of neurology at our major university, all to no avail.

eventualy found relief through persistance and a sympathetic family doctor who was willing to push the limits.

The regimen is sr tramadol + anti inflamatory twice a day, plus nortriptyline at bedtime

Of course, that regimen may not work for you, but, somwhere out there, there is somthing that will. Just keep looking, dont take no for an answer for so many years like I did.

    Best of luck

Dont let the 20 years scare you - for most of that I was way too passive - I would let doctors fob me off with advice to take some advil, or, if we tried a prescription and it didnt work, I just accepted nothing could be done.

Push and push hard, dont be afraid to push the limits. Most doctors will only try one drug at a time, but many people will need 2 drugs used together to get releif. Dont settle for second best!

My headaches are just like yours and I am still dealing with them. Ive head a straight headache for 6 1/2 years now and it sucks as Im sure you can relate. Ive tried everything you can think of and Ive been just about everywhere you can think of. But you are not alone and I know when I first started to go through this horrible pain I felt like I was the only one who had ever experienced a pain liked this and no one else had ever been in this situation. When I saw your first message you wrote on the board I wanted to write you back, just to let you know that you arent alone and that there are others just like you going thru the same thing. Im not saying that this will make it any easier or that it will take the pain away but hopefully having ppl there to share their stories and also havin ppl that are willing to support you like i am will make it a little easier at least the emotional part, one can hope. Im not sure what you need at this point but you let me know and am here for you.

Im not sure if youd like to know more about my pain but its very very simailar to your, at least from what you have wrote. And i also do have photophobia which is being sensitivie to the light.

I do have one question, what is your name and how old you are?

    Re: constant headache

I'm sorry to hear about everyones headache issues. I went for about 5 years thinking "Nobody can know what I am going through" To an extent I think that is still true when I am around family and friends.

I'm going through a terrible migraine right now I also have occipital neuralgia. Stuff like Imitrex doesn't even phase me. Been on vicodin and cyclobenzaprine for last 3 days, then take zolipidem to knock me out. The only treatment that has really worked for me are nerve block injections. Today I am going in for a DHE IV. If that doesn't work I will be scheduled for the injections tomorrow.

I feel for those that go through days, weeks, months with the same headaches. I did so myself from 2001-2007.

I totally agree with megaheadache - we need to bond and learn from each other's experience with headaches (and chronic pain in general).

    Hello Headpain

am right there with you, the nerve blocks do hurt more when they actually get the nerve. And I can tell you from experience that the soreness lasts about 2-3 days for me. I usually apply ice right away. Last time I went the Neurologist said that I tolerated the procedure "better than normal" which leads me to think he missed one of the nerves (I get them bilaterally)

I am waiting to get in for nerve blocks right now myself, have had intractable migraine since Tues PM, Thurs PM I had DHE IV (combination of Lorazepam, Raglan, and then the DHE) got a little relief but it wore off in 16 hours.

I hope you get relief from the procedure, it's painful no doubt, but for me the relief I get (80-100 days of relief) is well worth the procedure.

    (((HUGS)))

    Re: constant headache

Hello - just found this thread and can relate to you all.

I've had the same headache on the left side for approximately 6 years. Have tried maxillofacial specialists at the university, ear/nose/throat specialists, dentists, chiropractors and acupuncture. Diagnoses have ranged from Eagle's Syndrome, not Eagle's Syndrome, allergies, not allergies, stress, no stress, TMJ and no TMJ. Have had CT scans, MRI's and EEG's. Have cut out caffeine, sugar, and whatever popular cause is the favorite of that particular doctor. Have tried Vicodin, Oxy, Ibuprofen, aspirin. At this point I'm starting to believe the doctor who said it was all in my head.

I'm luckier than some of you because I would categorize mine as a 2-3 about 90% of the time and when I'm concentrating hard on my work I almost forget that it's there.

Maybe we should all show up on the steps of Congress or something ;o)

I think (NSAID) nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs help too.I think concetrating on the possiable cause of the headache instead of the headache itself may help you make better decisions about the headache.
