Stapedectomy at Mass Eye and Ear

Hi I have been diagnosed with otosclerosis and I am exploring surgery at MGH with Dr. McKenna. I have heard very good things about him but was curious if any one would like to share there experience at MGH with a Stapedectomy. My main concerns are :

    1) Stapedectomy does tend to wear off in time, due to prosthesis displacement or some other mechanical issue?
    2) The risks to the surgery are real including a permanent hearing loss.

I am wondering if there are people who can guide me. Any thoughts would be very appreciated esp. if you have had a stapedectomy at MGH,
