Connie- Please look below on this Hearing Disorders forum for two threads titled "My Stapedectomy Report". There, you will find pages upon pages of peoples firsthand experience with this surgery. It helps so much to see others progress through each phase of the process and find out what is to be expected. There is a ton of information on these two threads and you will enjoy reading them...It becomes a family!

I had my stapedectomy on November 30, and I've had a very smooth going so far. I am still recovering, in that I do not have full hearing back in my operated ear. I do hear better, but it's kind of like a bad speaker right now, with static and distortion at times, especially with loud noises. I have been told that this is normal, and will gradually improve over time. I don't regret having the surgery at all....It really is amazing what can be done with such a tiny bone.

I suggest you read the mentioned threads, then ask any questions you may have. People will be more than happy to share their experiences. Good luck!

Anne

DITTO...to what Anne said.

Come join us there. It's been a life changing experience for most of us (for the better).

More later,
