Re: tinnitus

I've had it for years. As far as I know, it does not as it is sounds that the brain creates. But the intensity can be affected by diet (salt, sugar, coffee). There are hearing centers, also called "audiology centers", where they have devices that help to train the brain to "tune out " the sounds. It's a process that accomplished over several weeks. It is not inexpensive, but I hear it it can have positive results. I have it in both ears and each ear can have two tones going at the same time. It can be quite loud and I can hear it even when I am outside. It is indeed frustrating, but try not to let it become worrisome, as it is quite common and affects people differently, particularly when it's somewhat new. It can take time to get used to it, but it can get better in than respect, just something that is part of living in your body.

Re: tinnitus

Hi there
I suffered from tinnitus primarily due to having hearing loss caused by a condition called otosclerosis, I had pulsatile tinnitus for a number of years.
I had a stapedectomy in Sep 2008 which not only improved my hearing but lessened the awful tinnitus.
I also was all over the internet resarching causes of tinnitus and it seems there are many types of tinnitus and many things that cause it...first thing I would do is find a sympathetic dr to help...may be even a dr who has suffered also? its very hard otherwise to connect and explain your situation.
THose who don't suffer really have NO idea what it is like....good luck
YOu will get lots of support here on these boards...
