Intratympanic steroids for SSHL success stories? Please?

    Hi all,

First off, I'm trying very hard to keep the positive thinking going so please, if you would be so kind, only post success stories for intratympanic steroid injections for sudden hearing loss.

I lost a big chunk of hearing (down 30db from 3.5k on up) in my right ear about five weeks ago after playing my guitar quite loudly to get out some angst after the loss of my child (so, yes, I was in an extremely fragil, stressed out, and unrested state which could be the only reason I would think of that 15 minutes of loud <pretty darn loud, but no louder than your average club or concert goer endures for 6 hours a night many nights a week> guitar playing would do much damage).

Anyway, after the event, my right ear was muted and ringing and didn't go away after a couple of days like I expected it to. It took my 9 days to get into a specialist who put me on a 2.5 week run of prednisone which did not help at all. I went back in and we ordered the steroids for intratympanic injection which took a week to get in. So, all in all, I'm about 5-6 weeks out from the initial noise exposure that caused the hearing loss.

Yesterday, I went in for my first intratympanic injection and I have a couple of questions for those who have regained hearing after an intratympanic injection.

    1. How long after the injection did it take for your hearing to show signs of improvement?

    2. Have any of you regained any hearing after a intratympanic injection this late in the game (after 5-6 weeks of hearing loss and after experiencing no benefit from no benefit from the oral steroid route)?

Again, I've had a really hard couple of months and would greatly appreciate only hearing success stories (if there are any) at this point. If I'm just totally screwed, I'll find out on my own soon enough.

And, yes, I'm having some musician's plugs molded that will be worn everytime I play the guitar or go to a show from now on. I've always been good to my hearing and this is one of the few times that I just let it rip and I am greatly regretting it.

Thanks very much for anyone willing to share their success stories and give me some hope. I'm an audio engineer by trade and am just starting to be pretty successful so this ringing, half working ear is causes me much stress.

    Thanks,
    Allbread
